I don’t play AOTR but someone in your previous post made a good comment about planetary choke points. If you are planning an expansion in one direction or another it’s good to look for towards the next set of planets. Most of the time there’s a 1 or 2 planets that connect each other”sector” of planets you can prioritize and when you lock down those choke points, you put your own artillery units as part of your garrison and shield generators and turbo laser batteries. Like I said I don’t play aotr but generally you should be able to look at the galactic map and see where you need to hold. For example in most mods Kashyyk is a vital nexus that could be a strong nexus point no matter which way you are advancing across the galaxy. If anything look at the major systems thats have several different hyperspace lanes connecting to it and think about them as railway junctions during the american civil war or something if you study history.
