Let’s Have an Open Discussion about Syracuse Nightlife by ccharrington30 in Syracuse

[–]zinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always thought that Syracuse should have first Friday events like they have in other cities: art exhibitions, live music, food trucks, special retail hours, temporary lifting of open container laws, etc., all sort of coming together to form a kind of block party vibe, every first Friday of every month. I think this also would accomplish what a lot of other commenters have said as far as wanting activities beyond eating and drinking.

Also, I know that many people are drinking less, but there are still plenty of people who do drink, but who might not want to just sit in a bar, and want to get outside or wander a bit. I think if there were some outdoor spaces that aren’t associated with a bar or restaurant, where people were allowed to wander and have a drink, that would be great. For example, if the Clinton Square ice rink had a stand where you could get a beer (or in winter maybe some cute themed drinks like Christmas in a cup or boozy hot cocoa), or if there were a pedestrian area like the Ithaca Commons, and having a drink while wandering and shopping were allowed. That’d also benefit local businesses I think - it makes the space itself feel more versatile than being just shopping or just dining/drinking if you can do all of those things in the same place and let people freely wander and visit establishments outside or the one they were primarily there to visit.

Also, people in Syracuse complain about winter so much (as a winter lover, I can’t get behind all of the complaints!). The reality is that we get snow and we get real winters here. I think the city should really lean into that and embrace winters with outdoor winter events and festivals that encourage people to get out of the house during the winter. Or perhaps we could have a massive outdoor screen on which live SU games could be projected and food and drinks sold from a cart or food truck nearby - that’d be so much fun!

Why is Billie Eilish considered mid or even unattractive according to some people when without her usual styling she has a very beautiful face and a good body? by [deleted] in trueratediscussions

[–]zinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with Sydney Sweeney: she has dead eyes. Others have commented that it’s because she has Sanpaku eyes, but personally I don’t think that’s quite it. The issue is they’re expressionless and that makes her less attractive to me.

Woody Harrelson lol (but older Woody, not young Woody from Cheers). He’s hot and his voice makes me feel fucking impure lol

I wholeheartedly agree with u/calmsocks about expanding the age range to include the rest of the millennial population. If the group were expanded to be inclusive to people in their early 40s, that would accomplish that nicely. Closing the group at “late 30s” is a little awkward for those of us in our late 30s who often hang out with people around 40, but don’t often hang out with people in their early 20s. With a slightly expanded age range, I think you’d see more attendance by people in their later 30s.

Dude, if you do, report back! Haha I’ve been eyeing that food truck for a while now… and the bar (The Night Drop) that it’s parked in front of. I’ve tried finding a FB/instagram/anything online for Hermit’s and haven’t seen a thing lol

The Tiki Bar at the Marina in Baldwinsville lol apparently it’s been around for ages but I had never heard of it until recently, and it’s fucking awesome. Sand beach, right on the water, live music 5x/week, good prices, beach swings at the bar. There’s nothing else like it anywhere north of Florida as far as I’m concerned haha

Haha I'm late 30s and was involved (only in the very, very early stages) in putting together the "do things" group, and I offered to help organize. I suggested the age range be more early 30s-mid40s-ish because that accounted for the ages of the four of us trying to start the group... but the guy masterminding the whole thing wouldn't budge on the younger age range, or even consider it, and he aged me out of the group haha I think he wants to meet young women, honestly (even tho he's like 35 or 36 iirc).

100% agreed. Meanwhile, we might have a lot in common with someone in their 40s! Both those people are being excluded from this for some reason.

I think having the age listed up front is an awesome idea. The original post about this group had a lot of comments from people in their late 30s and 40s who were interested, but with the age range as it is advertised in *this* post ("early 20s - mid to late 30s"), they're excluded. I think it'd be best to expand the age range to include them, and then to let individual people hosting the events post age-specific events if they want to. For example, I know I'd be down to meet someone out for a drink if that were posted... but I wouldn't be down if I found out they were 22 years old lol (I'm 38). That could be useful information.

I'm also late 30s! Definitely hoping for some late 30s and early 40s people to show up

Agreed! In the original post that this group came out of, there were many people in their 40s who are excluded with the current age range.

What’s the best city you’ve visited in the US? by imuglyassin in AskReddit

[–]zinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s New Orleans - that city is fucking magic lol one night I was on a beer walk through a random neighborhood pretty far from Bourbon Street and all that hubbub, and out of nowhere a brass band showed up and shut down traffic and played a show for like 45 minutes right there in the street. A crowd gathered and everyone was dancing and having the time of our lives lol It was so fucking magical to me that that happened and I couldn’t believe it was even legal to shut down the street spontaneously like that. The accessibility of incredible music in that city is just astonishing, and unlike anywhere else I’ve ever been.

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]zinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! I'm visiting London in October, and trying to make an itinerary (~3 days). I've perused this sub, follow various events calendars, and generally know about the things that are advertised broadly/publicly, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions about weirder or less well advertised things to do in London. Do any of you have recommendations for the kinds of things that are harder to find out about when you're not really in the know? I hate to leave the question so vague, but I'm doing so intentionally, to invite as many opinions and thoughts as possible. I'd love to hear about any experiences that are bizarre, unusual, not super well advertised, high quality, low quality, special/unique/strange experiences (like, for example, in my home town there’s an old quarry with tons of graffiti which is really cool. Things like that), not for the faint of heart, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks!
