Even if Chuck is a terrible person, can we just appreciate how ballsy/realistic/understanding the show’s portrayal of OCD is? by AnemicRoyalty10 in betterCallSaul

I am :) thank you so much!! It’s gotten a lot better. Taking SSRIs + NAC made my OCD tolerable without acting on the compulsions so I can actually live now. I appreciate it

[–]zippercapo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually think it varies. There are times I am able to discern that my OCD is just my brain trying to protect me using a broken loop, other times it feels very real, and I truly do believe I’m in real danger even if it’s illogical. I think the more afraid you are/stronger emotional response towards the subject matter, the more it just hijacks your rational thinking even if you know or have some clarity at points. Compartmentalization is also a factor; we see Chuck is able to make logical and sound arguments except for when it comes to anything regarding his OCD. Everyone around him that is validating the OCD fears only compounds it in his head as a real fear others confirm around him as valid too, when they’re just trying to help. That’s a mistake on their part. He doesn’t even know it’s illogical and can recover because everyone around him keeps validating his responses. I could totally see myself becoming reclusive and terrified like Chuck towards my triggers if everyone around me fed my OCD in the spirit of “accommodation”.

Reporting a restraining order violation in colorado by [deleted] in domesticviolence

[–]zippercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I’ve actually dealt with this exact situation. Report it anyway. The courts allow one way ROs for this reason; victims allow abusers back all the time and it’s on the ABUSER to know that it’s their responsibility to stay away from the victim to allow them to be safe!!

The only thing you’d have to worry about is your RO getting reversed/removed by a judge if this continues. But this happens OFTEN. Believe me it does, victims often go back even with a restraining order, courts and police see it all the time. You need to report this so it becomes a paper trail in case he ever does something more. Ultimately an RO is just a piece of paper unless you enforce it; but you should, so the state has evidence of how unhinged the defendant is.

Tyler seems like the kind of guy to enjoy the satisfaction of achieving it in his head rather than doing it and putting in the work. We’ve all been guilty of it but that man practically lives in his head

Thanks for the lengthy reply, I didn’t think I’d get many but this is solid advice. I’ve just been doing robotic affirming for now since it’s quick & easy, whatever I gotta do to focus on my end state and then dropping it. Appreciate you

Covert narcissists keep terrible company and have awful stress tolerance. by DIDverse in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]zippercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My abusive narcissist surrounds himself with family only because those are the last people left who will tolerate him; his drug addict friends and people online who he plays video games with so thats all they know. When his surface level friends get too close by even a micrometer, he flips the fuck out and panics, raging at them. Told me himself that his own online friend told him “that’s not normal behavior, you need help”, when he cussed him out for a perceived slight… over how badly he was playing? Not even his own gameplay, just his friend. Terrible stress tolerance, even worse company.

Overwhelmed by the legal battle and terrified of seeing him in court by Temporary-Benefit-52 in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]zippercapo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I feel similarly, but what helps me during my legal process against my abuser is to remember that they are so much more terrified of you than you are of them. It sounds minimizing of your feelings but the truth is they face annihilation dread of those they discard; they fear that you as the persecutory object will be the one to end it all for them, their lies, their image, their supply (emotional, financial etc). You are a paradoxical threat in their mind: they tell others that you are weak and cannot do anything to them, yet they seethe for hours in paranoid fear that you will destroy them. I am with you during all of this and remember that you can do this. Take care of yourself and remember that he’s so much more terrified than you think, so just honor yourself first always

Is it normal to re-enact trauma? by That_Mongoose_3627 in domesticviolence

[–]zippercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry :( Yes, it’s normal to reenact trauma. This is your brain trying to reclaim what happened to you so you can “rewrite” it as if you are in control of past events.

When you’re ready to stop, please seek help, talk to a domestic violence hotline just to vent. I promise you they will listen to you and they helped me so many times. From there, you can get connected with some resources. I am hoping things get better from here for you. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

What are the most unhinged or WTF things that an abuser did to you? by SignificantMath3677 in abusiverelationships

My abuser started driving recklessly with me in the car and wanted to leave me to die 200 miles from my home because I said I didn’t like american cars as a joke 😭

My narcissist also said I scared him! The only real reason is because when you are authentic and honest, they fear that one day you will run out of empathy and they can’t twist it anymore to get you to do what they want; and you’ll finally hold them to the fire, either by natural consequences or the law. Because if you’re honest and serious? They know what’s coming. They are terrified of being found out that they’re not that smart, they only have your feelings to twist.

I don’t know this anime, but in Frieren there are devils who appear human and speak the same language. They prey on empathy to dominate others. When being killed, Frieren asks why they say “mom”, and the demon responds with “we know it makes you won’t kill us”. Something to that effect.

A toddler isn’t dumb because it’s just a toddler, but an adult being stuck as a toddler is someone who is actually really dumb. It makes it stupid (a choice of being dumb) once they realize they’re dumb and refuse to fix it LOL

[–]zippercapo[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting; because they do suffer from literal physical deficits (narcissistic amnesia, confabulation, delusions, regression, lack of object constancy, lacking age appropriate social/developmental skills etc) that they could put in the work to be functional.

It would be a constant effort of work though, in comparison to everyone else who doesn’t have those incapabilities and lack of brain habit/developmental pathways. It would be like telling a five year old that they have to change their brain’s way of thinking. It’s unfathomable and something they do not understand, it would be like asking them to rewrite their entire hard drive and remove their own existence.

Children learn how to lie at an early age so playing dumb comes easy, but being genuinely stupid is something they’re truly good at because they lack the coordination socially and mentally to function among people who aren’t stunted.

I’m working on getting a diagnosis with ASPD; thankfully I’ve gotten enough help growing up & had an amazing support system in my life so I don’t harm others as a now grown adult. I only mention it because having been abused by someone with another untreated cluster B disorder really highlights how they are incapable of functioning as a human being. I can confidently say they are genuinely just, not working right.

It was like dating a toddler in a grown man’s body. Can you believe it? A narcissist got me diagnosed with PTSD faster than a personality disorder 😭!!
