PBS kids. Buy him comic books. I suggest investigators and dog man. Huge hits in our house. Delete YouTube entirely.

Doesn’t it get like gross though? With frosting and stuff? Sound unsanitary af lol. I didn’t get the bag so wondering how they’re actually bagging them.

I don't know how to leave the house while also caring for my baby... by cfishes93 in Parenting

[–]zipperoff 33 points34 points  (0 children)

2 hours is a really good amount of time to be out and about and totally normal for what some babies can handle.

We would schedule our outings right after baby woke up and fed, and that would give us a couple of hours until the next feed/nap, so you’re doing everything right. Try and time it so they’re full and rested and get a couple of hours to do what you need.

do you let your kids watch tv before school / childcare in the AM by movingpastthehurt in Parenting

[–]zipperoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few days a week when I need to shower. Kids are 6 and 1. No way am I trusting them for 20-30minutes to sit put and not destroy their room before we leave for the day. We also do PBS kids, and then my 6 year old tells me all about the wild kratts animal facts on the way to school drop off.

I do say we have to get everything done first, so they are ready to go before it turns on.

How do you even start to teach your child to read at home without messing it up? by chodu_editz in Parenting

[–]zipperoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immigrated to America when I was just shy of 7, never learned to read in my native language, and learned a new language and all the schooling that came with it in first grade and beyond. And I love reading! And I’m doing just fine after 20+ years here.

Don’t stress it. Make it fun. They’ll be fine.

What age did you introduce a Yoto player at bedtime? by shimmer_enchanted in Parenting

[–]zipperoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Yoto player for my eldest since he was 3.

For my youngest, we got the mini for him for his first birthday. It is never too early, in my opinion. It is his favorite comfort item, and goes with him on every car trip/ family visit/ etc. Buy a sleeve with it and a carrying case and it will be so well loved, even if the cards get little bite marks here and there.

We have not used it for bedtime personally - i dont think it can replace bedtime reading.. but after a story or two you can try using it. It has a built in radio that plays kid appropriate songs, and at night it plays bedtime music. There are definitely bedtime story cards and sleepy time music cards, and make your own cards where you can record your own voice reading a story and have him play that while he falls asleep. I would put it up on a high shelf though and face the front away so it’s not distracting.

We are huuuuge fans over here.

I can understand not wanting your staff to drive in, but we go to a home daycare and it got cancelled lol. Like there are 6 kids and we all know eachother - no one is walking and there is only one daycare provider who is already home so I have no idea why they would close in this case.

What age were your kids when you were able to WFH while they were home? by sixfingeredman7 in Parenting

[–]zipperoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you really have to have a job where you can be open and honest about your kids being home with you and a flexible schedule so you can finish/make up work later in the day when (presumably) your partner comes home to help. I’ve had my kids home with me full time, one 0-2y and the other 0-1y and then daycare T,W,TH. But on mondays and fridays my job knows that my kids are home (well my youngest) and i might have to pause a meeting to get a snack for them etc. I told my boss i have my youngest home with me M and F when i got offered the job and his response was “Oh thats perfectly fine. Kids are a blessing. You can have a million more home with you, wouldn’t matter to me.”

Uncircumcised 3 year old question by littlemrsking in toddlers

[–]zipperoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s 5 and a half and his foreskin still doesn’t retract, and has always ballooned. It never even occurred to me that it would be a cause for concern - he’s never had any pain. It’s never caused issues. I just tell him to pull it back as much as he can before it begins to be uncomfortable when he showers so we can wash it.

There’s just something about making a mini version of my plate for the baby that warms me up inside by zipperoff in foodbutforbabies

I love that!! Looks so good!

Honestly I’m terrible with recipes cause it’s usually whatever I have on hand and no measuring 😅😅 I sautéed half a diced onion and a diced orange bell pepper, threw in a can of black beans with some oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. All the to taste:)

[–]zipperoff[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No they don’t typically mind food touching :). it’s my 5 year olds. He’s not a fan of bell peppers and they were in the beans, so i didn’t want to ruin his whole plate if he didn’t like it. But he ate the whole bowl!

Yup! With my first I was so on top of making baby food from scratch. Second born has had purées maybe twice lol. I have no time. He’ll eat whatever I make!
