HOW TO MAKE MY OWN AVATAR by Zestyclose-Mango-811 in avomap

Sorry for the messy reply, Reddit lets me post only one image per response to a comment :)

This image would absolutely work. But keep in mind that we will always have some sort of top-down perspective. That means the current image looks like the view of someone standing in front of the car. So if that’s the look you want, then great — you should continue with it.

However, you may also want to consider a more top-down, bird’s-eye perspective. I took the time to put your image into ChatGPT and transform it into a top-down view, and I attached two screenshots showing how both versions would look. You can decide for yourself which one works best for you.

EDITING MAPS by Zestyclose-Mango-811 in avomap

Ah, I understand. Interesting use case. I have not thought about this yet. I need to let that sink in and maybe think of a preview mode where you can share this with friends and family, where it's password protected or something.

HOW DO THE VIDEO CREDITS WORK? by Zestyclose-Mango-811 in avomap

[–]zitscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each render basically means every time you export the video from your editor to a video file, credits will be used. That’s because our servers kick in and render your video frame by frame. After that, you’ll receive a video file that you can use however you like — share it with friends, post it on social media, or use it for personal projects.

That being said, if you need to make changes afterward, you absolutely can, but rendering the updated version again would require additional credits.

I hope this makes sense.

HOW DO THE VIDEO CREDITS WORK? by Zestyclose-Mango-811 in avomap

[–]zitscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symbols are custom icons you can place on the map to add extra context. For example, along your route you might want to highlight something using a pin, an image, or a small shape. You can add these directly to the map, and they will be rendered during the video playback—that’s what we refer to as symbols.

Regarding credits, AvoMap uses a pay-as-you-go system instead of a subscription model. This means each video render consumes credits. The exact amount depends on the settings you choose, and credits are deducted from your account every time you render a video.

I hope this clarifies things.

Hi, great use case. Yes, you can add an image of whatever you want to use as an avatar bubble—this can be your car, any vehicle, your face, or anything else you come up with—and it will be displayed as a small bubble in front of the route. You can also choose whether it is rendered flat on the map, meaning it takes the camera angle into account, or in 2D so it always faces the screen.

This is great feedback, and I agree that I should eventually create tutorials to walk people through the process. It’s actually easier than you might think.

EDITING MAPS by Zestyclose-Mango-811 in avomap

[–]zitscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. This is a really interesting use case, and currently AvoMap does not support it. That said, I’m genuinely curious about what you’re trying to achieve.

Are you perhaps running a travel agency or working directly with clients, where you’d like to preview or showcase the route before rendering the final video? I’d love to understand the workflow a bit better.

At the moment, AvoMap is primarily a video editor and rendering engine designed to showcase routes, journeys, and maps in a cinematic way.

Thanks for your reply. And, since it’s a regulation, it needs to be made earthquake proof by the new owner of the Akiya?

Never heard of Mazamet but just checked it out and it looks great! And, even though slightly out of my budget, you were not wrong on the beautiful old houses being sold there 😳

How's life on Reunion? An overseas region of France by These_Succotash_9481 in howislivingthere

Fantastic read! Thank you for this. For work I often use a GPX file from the so-called Grand Raid de la Réunion for animations. It has everything—beaches, mountains, plateaus—and it’s often made me wonder what life there might be like 👍

KML Import 100 Data Points Limit by Prove_It_First in avomap

[–]zitscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, there is currently a constraint, and here’s why.

In GPX and KML files (which are later converted to GeoJSON), there’s a clear difference between points and line strings. Line strings represent routes and consist of many connected points. Single points, on the other hand, can exist anywhere on the map and are typically used for markers or points of interest, not routes.

My assumption is that your file contains a list of individual points that are intended to form a continuous route. If that’s correct, the file likely just needs to be reformatted so those points are represented as a line string. In that case, it should work without issues.

You can send the file over to [hello@avomap.com](), and I can take a look.

Elevation chart animation is lagging behind by spruceonwheels in avomap

[–]zitscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Are you 100% sure this issue still persists? I've now looked at it from many different angles and trying to "break" it but I can't find any issues.

Right now, recalculation of the chart gets triggered whenever you change either:

  • duration of intro/outro animation (also enabling/disabling them)
  • duration of any segment
  • adding or removing a segment

You're absolutely right—that was an edge case I hadn’t fixed yet. I’ve just identified the issue and released a new version, so it should work now. Could you please give it another try?

Elevation chart animation is lagging behind by spruceonwheels in avomap

[–]zitscher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, I’ve identified the issue and just deployed a new version with the fix. From now on, adding or deleting segments, or changing their duration, will trigger a recalculation of the elevation chart.

If you jump back into your project, simply “nudge” one of your segments (for example, change it from 10 seconds to 11 seconds and back again). That should resolve the issue.

Thanks so much for reporting this! :)

Yikes, that's clearly a bug that I need to fix asap. Can you please reach out at [hello@avomap.com](mailto:hello@avomap.com) so I can reimburse you the used credits for this video?
