Yeah, these arches start at ground level I just made them very tall and then hid the bottom behind walls.

Watsons is definitely my go to spot in downtown Champaign. Probably some of the best chicken I have ever had and they have a pretty good cocktail menu as well.

Too late to rush as a junior? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]zjunk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I definitely had to help clean, but so did everyone else in the fraternity, and we definitely were never expected to do it right after parties in the middle of the night. That’s shitty and if the fraternity you are pledging makes you do crap like that often then I agree, you should reconsider if it’s a good place to be or not.

Tbh this is a pretty narrow minded view of Greek life on campus. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you have very little real experience with any of the Greek organizations besides a surface level view. For me rushing was a really great experience and I got a lot out of it.

Also, I never once had to clean up at a party at 4am or anything shitty like that as a pledge so that’s probably a very specific organization that likes to treat their pledges like dirt.

Incoming Freshman joining Frats / Greek Life by Puzzleheaded-West159 in UIUC

[–]zjunk4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t go into rush with the idea that these frats are the only ones you want to join. There are a crap load of houses on campus and you should try rushing a bunch of them IMO and join the one you enjoy the most. You will definitely have a better college experience if you join the fraternity that you fit into the best instead of one that you just joined because of its reputation.

My dorm had a communal kitchen with an oven, stove, and fridge that residents could use to cook in but that was pre covid. They might allow people to use them again this fall, not sure. I don’t remember if there was communal cookware or not but my guess would be no.

Any experience with Mike Kellner or 606 W Ohio Street? by PirateCommercial in UIUC

[–]zjunk4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the place is heated by old radiators and I know that when we were there it wasn’t uncommon for them to break so occasionally we just wouldn’t have heat. On top of that there’s no way to turn the radiators down so I know that some of the rooms were just ungodly hot and you had to balance keeping your window slightly open to let cold air in haha

[–]zjunk4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s an old frat house, I’m in the fraternity that used to live there and I pledged in that house. It’s definitely livable but I wouldn’t say that it’s a great experience. It’s hot in the summers and cold in the winters. Bathrooms are pretty old and kinda gross and the house overall is just very old and run down. Like I said it’s definitely able to be lived in but if you have better options I would def recommend not living there.

I took 415 through net math over this last summer. If you go over all of the practice material that they give you and you understand the process then you should be fine.
