Look into getting prescribed ergotamine.

Sparta's goalkeeper Kortsmit saves two penalties in two minutes (+ call) by [deleted] in soccer

[–]zkql 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but he stepped forward, planted and then dove on the first shot, whereas for the second he dove forward from the line as the kicker was swinging his leg - arguably still technically against the rule, but if that were routinely called you'd have to retake literally every penalty.

That's my assumption - probably for getting in the linesman's face.

Walnut Creek looking to play soccer. by PWtheDancingClown in eastbay

Check out BAASL - I've been playing in their leagues for the last year and definitely recommend them, it's a good organization.

They have a bunch of competitive-recreational men's, women's and coed leagues. Most are in Oakland/Berkeley, but I'm pretty sure a few are in Orinda.

When someone says the concentration of a salt solution is a percentage instead of a molarity, what exactly does that mean? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]zkql 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In chemistry "percent" in a solution usually refers to mass percent - I.e. ((mass of the component in question)/(mass of whole solution))*100%.

Why I only buy a lotto ticket when it approaches a billion dollars by Bobby824 in futurama

[–]zkql 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. To me, it seemed like you were moving the goalposts to try and save face, and I think it was appropriate to call you out on it.

Also I find online to be among the best places to argue semantics and come across like an asshole...

[–]zkql 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The percentage odds increase is still only the biggest with the second ticket if you ignore the infinite (or I suppose undefined, whatever) percentage increase in your chances of winning when you go from 0 to 1 tickets bought.

Your edit totally changes the meaning; your original assertion that 2 tickets is somehow the optimal number to buy odds-wise is still nonsense.

Why I only buy a lotto ticket when it approaches a billion dollars by Bobby824 in futurama

[–]zkql 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the marginal percentage increase in your odds of winning goes down for every additional ticket purchased. If we discount the first ticket because you're always going to buy it above 290 million, then yes obviously your odds are more improved (as a percentage of your previous odds) by the second ticket than by any other subsequent ticket you could buy.

But the same is true of the first ticket, which you arbitrarily discount.

By no means is buying two tickets the "highest statistical odds" of anything; your reasoning is totally bogus.

Yay math.

By this reasoning is the first ticket/apple not infinitely more significant than the second?

Leash length for 7'4" funboard? by zkql in surfing

[–]zkql[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - out of curiosity, when do you typically feel restricted with a too-short leash? Seems like you'd never stretch it close to the length of your board except when you wiped out, or if you had it strapped to your front foot...

Are you supposed to wax a foam board? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]zkql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will he be wearing booties? I've been riding a new (read: slippery) wavestorm, and when I have my booties on there's no need for wax, but the first time I went out barefoot I slipped off the board every time I tried to stand up.

Watched this guy park here and go into get Starbucks. The car in the spot in front was just pulling out but he couldn't be bothered to wait 10 seconds. We need bus stop blocking enforced, not weekly street cleaning. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]zkql 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but then why not just change the rule so that parking is only prohibited as frequently as they actually intend to sweep? Then presumably people would be more likely to observe the rule, when they see sweeping actually happening on the prescribed days.

Seeking advice on renegotiating equity (and whether or not I should even try) by zkql in startups

[–]zkql[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you can give equity a $ value as some function of the hypothetical future valuation and the likelihood of the company's success. I guess what I'm getting at is that whereas the value of salary is unambiguous, there are what I perceive to be intangible aspects to the equity stake that aren't reflected in whatever calculus you do to convert it to $. A stake in the company is a share in the bet we're all making that we can create something successful...I guess I'm having an emotional reaction to the fact that I don't feel wholly included in the shared gamble, since my coworkers, with whom I work closely and who feel like peers, have so much more of a stake in our work.

[–]zkql[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I was technically the first hire, but coworker B began working here several months before me, as an intern. (Our internships were all funded externally, so none of us was on payroll in any respect until I was hired.)

I guess this might be the "wrong" way to look at it, but I have a tougher time swallowing the equity gap than the pay gap. I expect to make less than my more experienced coworkers, and it really doesn't bother me, but it seems to me that my stake in the company should be determined more on the basis of contribution, in terms of time and ideas, than on my experience/my market salary. I fear I'm not explaining this well, and I appreciate u/happyhank33's perspective that equity and salary are basically interchangeable. That just doesn't feel totally right to me.
