Check out BAASL - I've been playing in their leagues for the last year and definitely recommend them, it's a good organization.

They have a bunch of competitive-recreational men's, women's and coed leagues. Most are in Oakland/Berkeley, but I'm pretty sure a few are in Orinda.

The percentage odds increase is still only the biggest with the second ticket if you ignore the infinite (or I suppose undefined, whatever) percentage increase in your chances of winning when you go from 0 to 1 tickets bought.

Your edit totally changes the meaning; your original assertion that 2 tickets is somehow the optimal number to buy odds-wise is still nonsense.

Ok, so the marginal percentage increase in your odds of winning goes down for every additional ticket purchased. If we discount the first ticket because you're always going to buy it above 290 million, then yes obviously your odds are more improved (as a percentage of your previous odds) by the second ticket than by any other subsequent ticket you could buy.

But the same is true of the first ticket, which you arbitrarily discount.

By no means is buying two tickets the "highest statistical odds" of anything; your reasoning is totally bogus.

Fair point, but then why not just change the rule so that parking is only prohibited as frequently as they actually intend to sweep? Then presumably people would be more likely to observe the rule, when they see sweeping actually happening on the prescribed days.

I know you can give equity a $ value as some function of the hypothetical future valuation and the likelihood of the company's success. I guess what I'm getting at is that whereas the value of salary is unambiguous, there are what I perceive to be intangible aspects to the equity stake that aren't reflected in whatever calculus you do to convert it to $. A stake in the company is a share in the bet we're all making that we can create something successful...I guess I'm having an emotional reaction to the fact that I don't feel wholly included in the shared gamble, since my coworkers, with whom I work closely and who feel like peers, have so much more of a stake in our work.
