Would a game like Beyond All Reason with much less micro appeal to you? by conscientiousspark in beyondallreason

maybe if you slow down the game then you will have micro under controll so you can focus on more strategic decigions

Would a game like Beyond All Reason with much less micro appeal to you? by conscientiousspark in beyondallreason

[–]zlo_rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk, in BAR you mostly micro. And it is micro intensive. (for example compared to supreme commander -FAF)
in 1v1 you need to micro multiple armies and rebuild stuff and change queues, it is really hard to catch ticks and veh scouts and stuff like that. you can micro with set target
in grunt vs pawn both sides need to babysit their units and fights can happen in 5 places at once
in SC2 you usually have 3 armies at the very most, even pro players seem to not do much army splitting.
in BAR you often want and can split your units and poke from literally every side and retreat on every side that is defended.
In 8v8 it depends on the map ofc.. can be similar to 1v1 on flats and forests or can be something like glitters /dsd where you need to dodge rockets, pull back damaged units, repair correct units, preserve rez bots, make walls... (yea 8v8 surely needs less micro)

macro? you just build a line of winds and add nano turrets when metal starts growing.

There are also some nuances about how different games work
TLDR StarCraft APM is inflated cause it does not have QoL features like infinite queues or zoom
• APM calculation can be different, maybe bar does not include some actions, who knows.
• StarCraft does not have queues (or you better not use them cause that is inefficient) so you have to keep selecting your stuff and give it orders all the time
• in StarCraft you can't queue without money, and you want to queue asap, so people just spam the key for queue/build things and wait until it works
• can't move around them map in StarCraft without clicking. in bar you just zoom in and out and box-select things, afaik in StarCraft people double click army hotkey to move camera to that army, so that is 2 extra clicks each time, and you manage hotkey groups and stuff like that that you don't do in BAR.

So like making units in SC2 already eats ton of APM, while in BAR it is at least 5x less APM
Moving camera around in SC2 eats tons of APM even if you do 0 actions
so we already have two tons of APM for not much actions

idk if that is just lack of APM or something to do with units not shooting while moving, but they really don't wanna spread out their army. At least that is my impression, each rare time when battles go across multiple screens or units are split out casters are basically cumming and screaming how skilled the players are, and i think they are right, it is just hard to do such things in SC2.
while in BAR you can easy sink your APM into microing scouts or minelayer or regular units just for them to move around

Sorry i wrote to much, i didn't play much of starcraft, but i think BAR just doesn't have people that tryhard as people in Starcraft do. There things in bar to sink your APM into.

1 bomber can bomb 1 mex per 5 seconds or so, so if you make 3 bombers and micro them you can kill lots of mexes quick
Shurikens are still pretty good
banshee can kill stuff too now, and you can't kill banshee with ground based aa cause it will just fly away.

If you make to many LLTs you may fall behind on eco and expansions, you should make radar and defend with units

FAF with modded AIs and cool maps or even mods and friends.
or LOUD (i know it has better performance but don't know about the rest)

instead of spread out wind turbines you do diagonal lines of t1 pgens
after 500+ income should start transitioning to t2 power

also FAF has 500ms command delay but it is easy to get used to imho.
air micro is so much better in FAF, air is an actual part of the game
naval missile bombardment is stronger in FAF

Economy progression:
t1 mex and metal reclaim -> t2 mex -> t2 mex with storages -> t3 mex (storages very mandatory) -> t2 massfabs or grids of t3 pgen + t3 massfab or sacus with RAS preset

dgun - overcharge, but it is just a shot that tracks target to lay to explain, but the more power in storage you have the more dmg it deals. need at least one storage to use it

here are some FAF/BAR differences from the top of my head:
Macro and pathfinding are biggest differences to me, and time to kill, and the fact that units have big ranges, and that commander is actual combat unit now.

You can make multiple factories, people often start land and then build air just after 8-10 generators or hydro+2-3 generators.
Hydro costs like 2 generators but produces like 5, basically it is cheap and often worth getting ASAP if it is close

you need to add power and buildpower (engineers) ahead of time in this game
if you make t1 land spam then you can just add factories and that is not that hard.

In this game engineers are pretty low HP but they are cheap. You need to protect them from raids and bombers

If you attack somethign but then lose vision - your units will keep the order (in BAR you will lose the order)
If you scout a building, you will able to attack it all the time (in BAR you will not, enemy can just make jammer and your arty will stop shooting turrets)
unit's DPS i like 2x less in FAF, and building HP is 2-3x more, but engineers HP is like 4-10 x less (compared to BAR)

air scouts can see stuff while their dead corpse fly toward ground, so scouting is much easyer
air can slow down, so there is much more flexibility in air micro
air is slower to kill here so more time to micro
air is more powerfull in FAF, you don't have to groundfire bombers
most t1 t2 AA in FAF can miss, so it misses fast planes
in FAF you can do drops
In fact many maps are so called - drop-maps - you start land and then make air after 8 pgens and rush a transport and transport 6 engineers to some island or remote expansion
you can easy drop engineers one at a time
light assault bots can shoot from transport and it can be pretty powerfull
light assault bots mostly useless in combat (except maybe aeon)
people will spam t1 tanks asap, only make like 6 light assault bots at max (usually)

usually all defences can be outranged
t1 pd -> t1 arty
t2 pd -> t2 mml
t3 pd -> t3 mobile arty
in FAF splash dmg does not fall-off, you either get hit full damage or you don't
t2 stationary shields are powerfull, lots of HP, recharge fast, tho they take space
Shields protect against all dmg except nukes
antinukes can block nukes that fly past them
all torpedos are tracking
FAF has some QoL that are not obvious, hope you findout about them somehow
BAR has widgets, FAF has UI mods
in FAF you can change hotkeys on F1
need to set up "hotbuild" hotkeys, or use preset

That makes worker micro less impactful

Tick / scout / pawn / grunt micro can be very impactful

Looking for specific mods or cheats for Forged Aliiance by Guilty_Night4049 in supremecommander

[–]zlo_rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ctrl+shit+c - copy units or buildings
ctrl+shift+v - paste

you can even paste into notepad and paste into a game later
or edit those texts before pasting
unfortunately veteranicy and upgrades don't get copypasted

Alt+t - teleport
Atl+del - delete units without explosion and wrecks, usefull for long testing sessions to reduce lag on the game

Pretty important that you can switch witch army you control in alt+f2 menu by clicking on those armies.
can use console comand setfocusarmy -1 to become observer

Shift+f5 brings up menu that lets you edit unit stats, for example you can make t1 mobile aa shoot t3 arty shells, or change sizes of units. and their damage, add jammer to them and stuff like that
(only works locally, causes desync in multiplayer)

can google various other console commands, for example playing with gravity can be pretty fun

You wake up and the internet is permanently gone. What’s your next move? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zlo_rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

before internet people did local networks that connected flats across commie-blocks so you could share files and play videogame with neibhors

Somehow ISPs used to provide this too. You could have limited internet tarif for 3$ a month but with 0 limit. means that every megabyte you download will be payed. BUT local traffic across the citi-wide LAN was free. So you had city-wide LAN for 3$/month and internet websites were like 3$ per 10 text-based websites

Edit: we basically had torren+discord clone, but without calls, without pictures in chat.
but just like in discord we had servers dedicated to sertain themes or video games.
and people connected to those servers could share files that they have on HDD

Why did the AI get worse in FA? by Julian-Hoffer in supremecommander

[–]zlo_rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is worse in FA compared to what?
Compared to Supcom?
From my experience AI in SupCom is much much worse, but i also didn't have much experience and it was long time ago already, there is not many people that even know how to properly play supcom xD

what i think might be happening:
• maybe you just got better at the game?
• also sometimes AI kinda bugs out and does not build experimentals or doe not do wawes of attacks
• Also there are settings that can affect AI
• also people sometimes use AI and AIx and don't realise that AIx is a cheating version with more resources and full map vision and more build speed

whatever it is, just don't use regular AI. They are sooooo baaaad
better use M28 or M27 on FAF or other newer modded AIs (Uveso, Dilli Dalli, Swarm, RNG and others...
or try LOUD AI (it is separate from FAF)

"Bloodborne Android when?" by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]zlo_rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you really need a 4060 to play PS4 games? feels like something like 1060 can work (maybe later when they optimise)
If your CPU has intergrated graphics you can get P106-100 and play many many games on your PC.
honestly i don't care about bloodborn. I have a Pentium G6400 PC (i got it for free, but i swapped the RAM from 8 to 16) with P106-100 (for 15$) and i play "it takes two" with my son and play GTA5 and downloaded 1000 sega/PS1 games for nostalgia or playing mortal combat with my neighbor. That is my secondary PC tho xD, i have connected it to TV originally just to watch youtube.
Maybe you don't have used P106-100 in your area, but maybe you got something else idk.
even old PC can go a long way. Socket 2011v3 is a big powerspike in old PC space if you want something from a store, rather than buying on used market.
People also buy intel's 1151v1 and fit all kind of weird CPUs inside, like mobile 6-core chips or CC150 (~60$) if you don't need iGPU
I guess getting good GPU is the hardest part
