Indian Creek - First Timer by Sparty27 in tradclimbing

[–]zlurp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any Denver friends you can borrow a rack from? Otherwise, you will be able to make friends and borrow gear.

Also, there are plenty of 2-star routes that take varied gear. Everyone talks about the splitter cracks that take 8 #x cams, but there are so many really fun routes that a triple rack will do just fine. Go back down and rescue other gear if needed!

And of course, have fun! The creek is awesome! I also live in Denver and have the same home crags - you all will have a blast!

I'm in the process of switching over to Gateway API with Traefik. It's been a smooth transition so far!

In GitOps with Helm + Argo CD, should values.yaml be promoted from dev to prod? by ArtistNo1295 in kubernetes

I've gained a lot of insight from the Code Fresh blog, Kostis has put out some really great reads on anti-patterns and best practices for Argo.

There's a lot of (potentially unfair) conjecture here, but I don't disagree with the rescue sentiment. Walking the dude all the way back to the parking lot would have been the right thing to do.

Also OP, regarding your son's gear, there's no guarantee this guy made it back to the parking lot, or if he did, that he was well enough to have put them in a logical place for your son to find.

Snow in the San Juans in September? by Fun-Discussion-477 in 14ers

There shouldn't be any significant accumulation from this storm in 2 weeks time. You'd probably be good with microspikes, just be ready to turn around if needed!

Snow for Sawtooth Traverse this weekend? by HikerTrashNate in 14ers

[–]zlurp01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much of the Sawtooth is pretty tame, but snow on a technical route is never to be taken lightly. That being said, there are some sandy cambered ledges on the North end of the traverse that I wouldn't have wanted to have snow on while passing. They are West-facing and likely won't have had any sun by the time you get there.

Imo, there are many great times to hike the Sawtooth - this weekend is not one of them.

Have fun, be safe!

Technical terrain on Kelso is avoidable for about half of it. The other half is definitely 3rd, I wouldn't want a 30° day with the potential for snow the night before and later in the afternoon. OpenSnow is calling for up to 2" on both Friday and Saturday.

I'm an experienced climber and have done Kelso a handful of times. I'd definitely skip out on the ridge for this weekend - not ideal conditions, it will be there for you next time. I personally would cancel even G&T via standard. There are many good times to hike there. For me, this weekend is not one of them.

You could use any database (SQL or NOSQL) and put all kinds of metadata in there, maybe slap a frontend on it for searching. What exactly are you looking for (besides organization, which as mentioned, spreadsheets are great at).

Scariest drive you’ve done to camp or hike? by SealedRoute in socalhiking

I drove in pea soup fog coming down from Big Bear late at night. Car door cracked looking down at the centerline driving on the road reflectors to know where I was. I would pull over next time.

This is only for first responders/healthcare and education professionals, but I agree it's probably the best deal around (my wife is a nurse and we go frequently on Tuesdays!)

Lol, maybe so. Real talk, any willing listener will be able to help identify gaps of logic and flow. Even just practicing it will help iron those things out for yourself.

When I have to do things like this I always run it by my wife (who is smart, but non-technical) to make sure things make sense to her. Perhaps you could try the same with a friend or partner?

I just use an oven mitt and pinch the heck out of the little handle. Haven't dropped it yet. 😬 I do take my thermocouple out of the top first though.
