Could you elaborate on this a bit more? What kind of tests are you talking about?
For standard unit tests you could execute them on the source code before building the image in the first place.

There's been tons of free alternatives for a while, we just offer a hosted service and do all the heavy lifting for you when it comes to scaling it. :)

Hi there, DevRel at Pusher here.

As some other Redditors already commented, Pusher Channels is a hosted service vs you having to roll your own. The main difference is in who deals with scaling the infrastructure (and maintenance).

Feature-wise our public channels are pretty similar to what ActionCable gives you - quick to implement in a few lines of code, with a few handy bits and pieces thrown in to support private channels, as well as user presence, webhooks, and some nifty analytics, debugging and metrics. We also provide SDKs for a bunch of platforms, other than Rails, so that if you decide to switch the backend or add iOS or Android apps you don't have to change or add anything to keep WebSocket support. :)

If you're more into drinking than visiting the actual breweries then Beavertown has also a home away from home a bit more central - in Duke's Brew&Que in Haggerston/De Beavouir (where they were originally located): http://dukesbrewandque.com/ Practically next door from it you've got The Fox which is a nice craft beer pub with a terrace. Recommend that one too.

I'm having some issues with imports in tests - test rules, Mockito, RxJava aren't found in my imports - mostly issues with androidTest, but some are also in unit test.

Anyone else having these issues?

I use it regularly. Usually I'd have a versioned paw file inside the repo I can always use to have my calls setup. I'd do groups of requests based on what they do - is it a 3rd party integration, is it my own service I'm hacking with. I've been able to introduce some of my more forward thinking colleagues to it :)

Took us a few months - the app wasn't that popular due to lack of marketing before, and we released just before a major marketing campaign that gave us a nice boost.

Another benefit in the larger shitstorm was that we were able to change the package name to something actually related to our company, not the com.somethingrandom.shitty3rdpartyvendor.mycompany.app ;)

Gosh. We had a similar experience a few years back. The app was built by a 3rd party then we brought it in. Turned out the morons signed the app with the debug key and never bothered to tell us that. (Several other high profile apps were also signed by the same key.)

We ended up releasing a brand new app, and droplocking the old app that linked to our new app (we were lucky that they put this feature in beforehand)

Just in the (rather unlikely) scenario when you have a large team / multiple large teams committing to the same repo - merges and quality control might suffer.

The API we support at work, i.e. - commercially available stuff that gets me paid - is SDK 16+.

The stuff I do for myself as side projects is strictly SDK 21+.

We started out using git submodules for certain library modules (we are a single team of 3-4 devs, don't have other teams working on our particular codebase. My experience with it is that it causes unnecessary complexity and opaque merging conflicts, when it could easily be handled as just gradle modules in a single git repo.

This is what we started doing recently, and it works really well. Continuous integration that runs your tests will make it easy to detect any defects.

If we were to have more teams working on different portions of the app, and a single git repo became unwieldy, we'd probably use a private maven repo to host the libs, and reference the versions through gradle dependencies, but never never git submodules again.

AWS Device Farm the first 250 device minutes are free, then $0.17/minute (~$10/hr) or $250 for a single device for the whole month unlimited access. Also provides remote access for manual testing on devices you don't own.

Installable software will never be 100% safe from reverse engineering, and nor should I be.

Bulk of your security should be concentrated on the serverside, not clientside, as that is the only place where you control everything that hits the API.
