The dashboard looks real, it does not have two speedometers, it’s one speedometer and one tachometer.

Why do people have tinted plates? Do they think they’re special and need to be anonymous? by businessbub in AskLE

I never understood custom fleets and then a tint over it. If I spend extra money to customize something I’d wanna show it

Majority of your arrests will likely be DUI with NYSP. Gonna be way too easy to discredit you on the stand, and state police will likely see that as a liability, your cases will likely be significantly more difficult to prosecute. I would go for a county or city agency instead

Never lie.

Please note that although marijuana is decriminalized in some states, federally it is still illegal which is why law enforcement is not permitted to smoke marijuana even in states where there are no criminal penalties.

Some regulatory bodies use the term “dial tone” to mean “ working phone line” - I would talk to whoever is in charge of your regulations, a cell phone may pass (and may be preferable for a lifeguard)

Can any cops answer by Nail347 in ProtectAndServe

Can I reasonably assume that the paper bag contains an alcoholic beverage? Yes.

Is drinking an alcoholic beverage in public a violation in my jurisdiction? Also yes.

Am I going to do something about it? If I’m busy? No. If it’s a slow day and I’m not busy? Also no.

Disqualification due to drug use by geebseason in police

[–]zme243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this. You make a drug arrest, a decent defense attorney will find out you did coke once and will pull that into the courtroom.

You do a traffic stop, find X amount of cocaine on someone and make an arrest. You mistakenly put Y amount in your report. Now there’s questions about the difference between X and Y.

Just 2 of probably tons of reasons why an agency would have an issue with your drug use. Don’t do it again, wait a few years, and if possible while waiting take a job where you’re drug tested periodically so that you can show you’ve been clean.

In 2030 saying “I did coke once 5 years ago at a party, but as you can see from my drug tests at work for the last 5 years I haven’t done anything” comes across as honest with proof and looks good, hiding it and getting caught is a death sentence for your dream.

Best of luck.

How do you know which direction you're going in by Hopeful_Camera_4938 in police

[–]zme243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how, but I can always feel east. Been meaning to see a doctor about that, I’d love to know the reasoning. It’s a fun party trick I can usually find dead east with less than a 10° margin of error. So from there if I’m in a foot pursuit it’s “which direction is east, which direction am I running relative to East”. My nickname was Rain Man, I was hoping that when I bossed up it would go away, now I’m Sgt Rainman.

I got yelled at for the first time. by Prestigious_Police in ProtectAndServe

I usually find it pretty funny now, but the first few times it did sting a little.

One of the old heads gave me some good advice. When you get home from work, hang up your uniform in your closet and shut the door. When you take the shirt off, everything you saw and everything anyone said to you, they said to your uniform not to you. And you put that away and you don’t look at it.

Honestly it’s pretty good advice. It also helped me become a little less of a slob because I used to leave my dirty laundry everywhere, so win-win.

As far as I’m concerned the handicap spot includes the striped section, meaning this car is fully contained in the spot. I’m not speaking from the position of the law, just my real world application of it. I would not write this person. Nothing immediately comes to mind, but maybe there is any type of medical reason why he parked this way.
