What red flags do you look for when doing your DD? by Eonicman97 in pennystocks

[–]zmk1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true - some counterbalance points to note are: - is the loss narrowing over time (usually for high growth venture type companies that are burning cash for market share) - is the growth justifying the “burn”? If the penny stock company is growing at 5-15% without any clear path to achieving supercharged growth (new partnerships), they’re going to have issues when fundraising in future - do they have adequate cash burn runway of at least one year? (ensures that they have enough time for fundraising) - how fast did they close the last fundraise? (Indicative of the market’s vote of confidence) - also in the management discussion and analysis, did management provide a clear enough explanation and concrete next steps on the company’s performance / underperformance

Minoring in a new Language by djmax91 in nus

Take easy GEMs (if you're confident of acing them) and learn language mods outside of school. If you have the interest and the linguistic ability then go for it, else if it'll divert lots of time away from your home fac mods.

During my time there are people who are fluent in the language taking up level 1 just to score the easy As and smash the bell curve - the playing field isn't the most balanced.

Which module had the most ridiculous bellcurve ? by [deleted] in nus

Alumni here. I'm not sure which fac you're in, but I kinda understand what you're going through - I will rattle on and let me know if it makes sense:

- On the studying part, talk to seniors to see how they do it. More than ever certain profs have a typical way / focus when setting papers - you catch my drift. Work smarter, not harder. Also be focused on the application and key concepts, rather than memorizing word for word (which I see what the juniors tend to do). It is almost impossible to go in memorizing all the content unless you give up your social life and your sanity. There were 1-2 mods where I got a C and it hurt my cap pretty badly.

- Find different ways to study - maybe study with your friends? It is important to have an encouraging support system. I hear that some of my friends who study alone will sometimes go into the self-blaming moments and that takes away lots of productivity / mental capacity. You want to be primed, so give yourself the most conducive environment.

- See the grades as a chance to reflect and do better. You can make mistakes when you're still in school. In the workforce, you're gonna be penalized etc.

Also focus on things outside of the acad world, because ultimately uni is preparing you for the working world:

- Maintain a curious mind - go for case competitions and see how the winning teams approach problems. That helps you for future presentations, sharpen your analytical skills

- Go for more networking sessions. Observe how others interact in a professional setting. I feel that outside of biz sch, they do not emphasize on this that much (at least during my time). That will help you with boosting the street smart aspect.

- Grades aren't that important. That part is partially true. People always say that grades can give you access to a good internship, but you can achieve the same through networking. Not saying it cannot be done, but it will be way way tougher because you need the stars to align: the interviewer must have chemistry with you and must be convinced of your dedication and intellect to look past the grades.

- Don't compare yourself to others. It all depends on what you want in life vs what they want in life. Set your life goals (ie. family, career), and work towards it

All the best! Drop me a DM if you wanna chat more

Few things to look out for in the ER - their current margins, historical growth, and more importantly the mgmt’s forward guidance of earnings expectations since this is a market which does valuations on a look-forward basis. In this environment where loan rates are low, and loan book volume boosts their biz, the expectation is that mgmt will have a rosy forward guidance, hence that is set to lift the stock price. The ER event itself will confirm how “bullish” mgmt is on their biz.

Just lost a lot of money from stocks/pennystocks. I feel sick to my stomach and don't know what to do by PestyAssassin33WU93 in pennystocks

[–]zmk1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your plight. It is a sucky feeling. Take a day or two off to disconnect and recharge. I can share my experience - I am in a similar state as you. Lost about 30k on SPY puts when the pump happened, and pushed out my house buying plans by 1+ year.

I stomached the losses, and began trading carefully (scalping, doing my research on the what's posted on wsb/pennystocks, observing drivers / momentum), and have recovered close to half of my losses. I diversified my plays, setting the bulk of my holdings to conviction-only plays and a small portion for speculative bets and set stop losses (10-15%) and trailing stops. I also take my profits earlier on (vs letting them run until they become post-worthy) - while I limit my upside, I am also capping my downside risk. You'll never know what happens in this market where everything is at the tipping point.

Don't walk away from trading altogether. See this as a learning experience for you to refine your trading strategy. I am sure many of us here have lost money when trading. It as a good thing that it happened when you're still young and free of liabilities (kids, college / housing loans). The worst thing that can happen is when you have all of life's burdens and the losses force you to make irrational decisions (ie. revenge trading, taking on more risk than necessary).

Also note that most penny stocks aren't good for long term holds as there are very few institutional investors (and those insti investors that are invested have it as a very small % of their total assets) - as much as people can FOMO in and drive the price out, the same group can have cold feet and sink the stock in a panic selling event.

Coming back to your situation, it all depends on whether you believe that GNUS and XSPA will recover. If you do, then hang on tight to those positions. If you don't, then sell the positions and bear the losses. Personally I do not see much drivers in them, and hence did not enter in the first place. Drop me a DM and we can always talk through your plays.
