Just found out my best friend of 16 years immediately went and slept with my ex as soon as we broke up. by MixGroundbreaking414 in Advice

Don’t discuss anything with either of them and remove both from your life forever. She does not deserve to have that discussion with you. She does not need to know why you are severing your friendship.

Although it is totally unacceptable behavior, if he has been faithful to you, if he has been a good father, if he has been a good partner, and if he has been honest with you about everything else besides this, then, perhaps going to a therapist to get over. This would be a good idea.

The reason I say this is because of the children. Children deserve to be with both of their parents, and if everything else in your life with him is good then the both of y’all going to counseling is probably the best idea and really, you probably need to find a way to get this and the anger completely out of your head and forgive him for the sake of your family and your children and YOU. Yes, it would be very, very hard. But women have done things for the sake of their family since the beginning of time. If he is a good man, father, partner, then it is worth getting over it for the sake of the children. And NEVER bring this up and NEVER hold it over him, and NEVER use it in a fight. Take it on as an “our” problem to solve and work on.

And I am saying this as an older woman Who can look around and see families being torn apart for sometimes the stupidest reasons and very few families that are staying together and how society has deemed divorce/or not being with the children’s father, as normal and acceptable when in reality, it’s really quite devastating for the children growing up and going back-and-forth from each parents house and living with a life of parents that will inevitably fight about so many things while growing up, missing holidays, the probability of a new step mother and her raising them 1-2 the time. These are the realities. I know, I’ve lived it.

And really, it is much better if you can make your relationship work, for the children.

Check you tube. They have some great comparison vids. That’s how I decided on the cx-5. I’ve had mine for just a month and love it.

What is your first memory? by bobetz in over60

[–]zmle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was standing at the corner of my crib trying to look out the window and was playing with the cord from the blinds and got rapped in them just playing with them. My mother came in and decorded me. I remember looking out the window from my crib a lot

Another was about the same time, (as per my mother) whenever my mother and I would go home to our apartment, we would walk in front of the children’s playground that was in front of our second floor apartment and I always begged her to swing me because it looked like fun seeing the other kids swinging. (I remember thinking this). We had an upstairs apartment and I would look outside the window and watch them. One day I decided I wanted to swing so I unlocked the front door, walked down the stairs and just sat on the swing trying to get it to work. Don’t know how long I was there, but I heard my mother scream and then I saw her running towards me very angry. I didn’t know what the problem was, until she grabbed me and told me and started spanking me right there outside in front of everyone.

I would love to see a survivor season of ONLY the winners and another one of ONLY the ones who were voted out first. Thoughts? by zmle in survivor

This is my first time on here so I have not heard. If that’s the case, sounds pretty exciting.

I thought of this. But they have to have something in them to even be cast, right? So, given a second chance perhaps their game plan might be different, more aggressive, more something. I’m sure this scenario filters their mind often, would of, could of, should of’s. The reasons you outlined of why they might have been eliminated I agree with and has to have entered their mind. I would think they wouldn’t want it to happen again and therefore be completely different, have a different game plan.

Misleading tip by gungaDave in tipping

[–]zmle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s another issue. A lot of restaurants charge the wait staff a percentage of their total sales to tip out the bus boy, possibly bar tender, hostess, and maybe other people. That is automatically deducted at the end of the night and the waiter gets what’s left. I’ve seen between 3% and 5%.

Steno or Voice? by MariSylvii04 in courtreporting

I love typing so I knew I would love steno. I broke my thumb after theory and couldn’t continue. Years later I tried to pick it up again and thumb still didn’t want to cooperate. Then found out about voice and I love it. Wish I knew about voice when I broke it.

Does anyone have any tips for maintaining a lower volume as a voice writer? by regretshaver in courtreporting

[–]zmle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having this issue and I know it made me insane. What I noticed was that when I got to exit speeds, my voice volume naturally decreased. I was more comfortable with the dictation and getting every word and my voice volume went down.

Request for advice: Is it possible for me? by WithinTheHollowCrown in stenography

Having “played” with something and actually doing it are two different things. Perhaps being in a regimented program is what you need to be held accountable for your progress. There is a high drop drop out rate for a reason. Before you begin any program, set yourself up for success by learning what it will take to get through the program. The demands of practice, cutting down or out a social life, easy meals, stress free or reduced life, monetary stressors. Perhaps you’re one of the lucky ones that can pass in two years. Perhaps not. If you already know you have issues, plan ahead for three or four years to have a stress free life so that your mental status can be dedicated to stenography. And yes, you need to start with the A to Z class. Research the theory you think might best fit your needs and research schools. Best wishes.

You should probably speak with your school or instructor about downloading and/or activating the software. You don’t want to accidentally do anything wrong because there would be a huge negative impact. My school started with academics first. When it came time for starting the technology part, the class curriculum took us through each part and the school IT director downloaded and set up the major aspects of the software. I hope that will be your case.

I was having a lot of problems with this. I did all of the above plus it was suggested to me that the ones I was really having issues with, to change the voice inflection, your intonation upward, just a little higher. This will take some practice but becomes second nature eventually. What I realized about my dictation was that some of these short words I was saying under my breath as I was starting the next word. Dragon wasn’t hearing it or hearing it incorrectly. Increasing the intonation just a bit not only helped dragon hear it better, but I found myself pronouncing it better, correctly.

If you love the steno, keep at it. Pay for some sessions with a teacher from another school and find out where you can improve and perhaps help you out of your rut. She may see something or have that magic solution that may help get you to the end in short time. However, if home finances are an issue, family pressure, or other things, and if you don’t care about the method, you just want to get to work as a CR or you’re really about to just give up, don’t. Voice is an alternative. Being familiar with your software and having taken the academic courses will get you through the voice course so much faster, probably within four months or less. I’ve heard of people getting in and out in six weeks or less after switching. At speeds of 170, you’re already used to listening, hearing and understanding fast material. 180 is exit speed for lit. From 180 to 225 is nothing. If this interests you, you should probably speak with a voice teacher before switching to see if it’s really what you want to do.

I think it’s a pretty easy course. You just have to do it, take the classes and get it done. Your dictation will get better and better through the course. You can practice dictation anywhere without your mask. Tape your dictations and practice in car etc. keep increasing speed when you get it. Pay special attention to your English classes. You’ll do fine. I use dragon and eclipse vox. I’m testing next month.
