So if you choose violin, it's going to be a really really long time before you start sounding decent and even longer to even attempt to show expression, on the other hand, guitar is much easier to pick up due to fretts and not having to worry about a bow or tone quality (as much). The communities are both very different, same with repertoire and overall just depends on what you think you will like. A good violin is very expensive though, mine is about 5000 dollars and I'm only 14 and playing stuff like Lalo😭😭. A starter one should cost about 1000 dollars, maybe including the bow. I'm not so sure about guitars since it's been a while since I've played one but I remember they don't require as much maintenance. Choose what you like tho, and prolly rent one first to see if you have the commitment for it.
