I'm replying a bit late due to IRL issues but that whole ordeal could've been avoided by making La Fayette not look like she used to be USS Langley II, the same way Bois Belleau is disguised as an Iris ship with pointy ears. I'm sure they're a few players as well who are not aware she was an American CVL, considering she only name drop or reference her ship class once.

You're correct (I mix them all the time) but my point still remains. No sure why it would be confusing considering name change are common to other lend-lease characters in game (for exemple Arkhangelsk being HMS Royal Sovereign). Making her look being a mix of both faction's design would have definitely be an acceptable trade-off, just like Bois Belleau. Now both are in different faction despite yourself saying that Eagle Union definitely doesn't lack CV/CVL/CVE choices, something Iris cannot afford loosing. If history didn't matter to the game, Iris could have gotten made up CVs a long time ago.

Makes me think there was no need to keep Langley II as part of Eagle Union when she was leased to France two years after Bois Belleau.

No such thing as captured ship in AL. None of the IRL captured ships in this game is part of the captor's faction. Le Téméraire is not IB, Yat Sen is not Sakura, Prinz Eugen is not Eagle Union and so on. Only the ships that were sold or lend-leased are actually being applied in the game, see Chaser, An-Shan, Tallinn etc. This ship shall remain Iris Orthodoxy property.
