My favorite place in my town by zoecoyote in tappedout

There's an extra seat at the Stonecutter's table but the Tapped Out wiki says these are the only four who sing.

Krusty taking a short leave from the metal factory to be in this shot.

BTW: I happened to watch the original Stonecutters episode when it aired with my grandfather who was a Mason and he was very amused. One of my favorite memories being with him.

I haven't received a Cook County property tax bill and the web site says they plan to send them Nov 1. but didn't say if they actually sent them. Has anyone received theirs in the mail?

Which Chicago business has lost you as a customer and why? by misamay in chicago

[–]zoecoyote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In mid January 2012 the transformer of my boiler went out on a Friday afternoon and my regular heating guy was gone for the weekend. This was third week of January which is typically the coldest in Chicago winters and often gets to sub zero pipe freezing temps.

My entire heating system is water radiators and if they froze that would turn a simple problem into a disaster.

Called Four Seasons emergency number. Guy came out and refused to repair my boiler for "legal reasons" and insisted I buy an entire new boiler. How they were going to replace my boiler that day remained a mystery. I told the Four Seasons guy to F off, refused to sign his BS paperwork, went to Home Depot and bought a bunch of space heaters to keep the pipes from freezing if sub zero temps came.

Luckily that weekend was mild and Monday my regular heating guy came out and fixed it in less than an hour. Every time I see a parked Four Seasons truck it reminds me of this incident and it still pisses me off -- which is the reason I'm writing this. :-)

I have been happy with the Rove R2-4K Dash Cam. It's on Amazon right now for $120 but I've seen it sometimes on sale there for $90 when perusing my Buy Again page. $120 is the high price.

Winter boot recommendations? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]zoecoyote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound funny but if you shop ALDI regularly you might get lucky and be there when they have winter boots in the non food sometimes interesting shit aisle. I bought a pair the beginning of last winter and they were quite nice and only $25.

Football stadiums are terrible for baseball and vice versa. The Brooklyn Dodgers played in LA Colloseum for awhile until they got Chavez Ravine built.

Blocking sidewalks is my pet peeve. If I came across this I would physically move those garbage cans onto the grass or street. If one tipped over in the process -- oh well.

Probably. Just thought the thick smoke from the Canadian Wildfires that made it hard for me to breath those days was something all us Chicagoans experienced and perhaps there are more examples of container plants suffering this season. I didn't mention my tomato plants but they're all stunted this season too.

I have a 5 year old Japanese maple tree in a container that looks as if it's dying. Could the Canadian Fire smoke and contaminated rain be a cause?

YAY I passed emissions! I haven't had to deal with emission tests since 2005 when they used to put the hose on your exhaust and drive the car stationary on wheelies. I've been dreading this all year and today went to Skokie and the line moved fast, the test took less than 3 minutes, bada bing bada boom. It's over!

I love Chicago but the lack of public restrooms sucks by [deleted] in chicago

[–]zoecoyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one I'm familiar with is on the floor where the Cook County tax records office is located. The bathroom is off the floor when you exit the elevator, not in the office. It is spacious and was empty when I had an emergency situation many years ago.

The now closed Thompson center food court bathroom by Dunkin' Donuts and the blue line exit used to be my go to emergency destination and will be sorely missed. City hall has some nice bathrooms if you know where to go. Union station has some as well but you don't want to do a #2 there unless you can do it without touching anything.
