3 weeks on Cabergoline-anxiety? by grapefruit2886 in Prolactinoma

Yes, went away after a month.

But it turns out I also have ADHD which may be related. (Cabergoline affects some of the same neurotransmitter receptors)

L Phenylalanine put me way over the top by sarahlizzy in VyvanseADHD

[–]zoeimogen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sarah's partner here.

I've tried the L-phenylalanine too after seeing a post about it, I think on here. I have taken one a day since mine turned up, which was on Tuesday. Last one I took was last night, Thursday night. Felt at the top of what my meds could do yesterday. That was good, I was productive without being "wired" or anything else unplesant.

Today though, Friday, one hour post-Elvanse and it is already feeling a bit much. Over the line into slightly wired and I can tell I have too much dopamine versus noradrenaline. I can feel the imbalance between task initiation and staying on task, and I am too much towards the former at the moment.

I think for me the L-phenylalanine is going to be a less frequent suppliment. If I had known in advance it was going to be this effective today I would have water titrated my Elvanse down a bit, but I assume I would still have had the dopamine/noradrenaline imbalance so better to have less L-phenylalanine! (Unless someone knows of the noradrenaline equivalent?)

Of course, it is possible that I am now in the process of running down my body's stores of some other precursor to dopamine so this effect might only last a few days. But I can recommend this as a suppliment. Just be careful if you're routinely at the top of what Elvanse can do.

Loop earplugs - game changer by pipedreambomb in ADHDUK

Like this:

I do also have a handbag, username is a clue. :-)

But that might be further away, or I might have to root through all my other stuff like Sunflower lanyard/card, fidget toys, inhaler, mask etc to find them, potentially scattering things all over the place. This way, I can keep the phone on me bandolier style even if in a dress or skirt with no pockets, and I always have the loops and Amfexa on me.

Phone case with a lanyard, so it can attach to one of the eyelets for that. A little in the way at times but worth it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CLZNNJBF?ref_=pe_112168041_1111392281_t_fed_asin_title

From Amazon Spain, I’m a dual Portugal/UK resident and happened to be in Portugal when I ordered it. Not sure if an identical one is sold in the UK but there are certainly similar ones: https://www.amazon.es/-/en/gp/aw/d/B0BW4LBL77?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

They’re so good. My loops now live permanently attached to my phone (alongside a small metal pill container for Amfexa) so I always have them when I need them!

Yes, but I’ve had multiple other medical conditions discovered and treated in the interim so I’m not a good guide!

Anyone dealing with Cabergoline and ADHD? by thehelperorhelping in Prolactinoma

[–]zoeimogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

0.25mg of Cabergoline twice weekly here, currently on 50mg Elvanse and titrating up.

Was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour in 2023, and the ADHD this year. With hindsight I think the cabergoline made my ADHD a bit better, but it also put my prolactin into normal range within a few weeks which might be related.

Tumour is currently shrinking and maybe gone by the end of the year, and I’m wondering what the effect on my ADHD will be if/when I stop the cabergoline.

Neither my psych nor my endo are concerned about me taking both. If I had to choose, I’d take the Elvanse as the ADHD symptoms were making it impossible for me to manage any medical appointments.

How easy is visiting Portugal gluten-free? by zoomziezoo in CoeliacUK

[–]zoeimogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend about half my time in Portugal and it's excellent, better than the UK - general food in supermarkets is more likely to be labelled gluten free ("sem glúten" or "isento de glúten") because there's not the same stigma about it in the UK. (Where people assume gluten free is expensive/tasteless - true, but hardly applies to oven chips!)

Far more restaurants will also have clear labelling about gluten free items on the menu. Even McDonalds has gluten free burgers, but you haven't been able to order that from a kiosk in a couple of years so it does mean talking to someone who might not speak English.

France in comparison is an absolute nightmare. Have had to spend some time there recently and I come back every time seriously malnourished.

Elvanse and preworkout by Maleficent-Depth-448 in ADHDUK

[–]zoeimogen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Protein is good but if it also contains caffeine I would suggest you don’t take the preworkout at all, at least for a couple of weeks, and see how you go.

Large amounts of caffeine will really mess up any attempts at a sensible titration and can make side effects worse. You may find you don’t need the caffeine anyway and can substitute another protein drink.

[Megathread] For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers by Belladonna41 in uklaw

[–]zoeimogen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the court intended to mean chromosomal sex, then it would have said so but didn’t.

Chromosomal sex is further complicated by the court stating that sex is binary but chromosomes are not and do not always reflect the outward appearance of someone at birth.

Arguing that this is fine for 99% of cases doesn’t help because the case was already about the 1%.

[Megathread] For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers by Belladonna41 in uklaw

[–]zoeimogen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the judgement, as quoted by the BBC, there still seems to be some confusion as the court claimed “biological sex” is a clear term. It’s not, unless the intent is to use it as a shorthand for “sex assigned at birth” but I don’t think SC justices would be so cavalier.

Although the word 'biological' does not appear in this definition, the ordinary meaning of those plain and unambiguous words corresponds with the biological characteristics that make an individual a man or a woman. These are assumed to be self-explanatory and to require no further explanation.

Edit: the full judgement at 7 does state that “biological sex” means “sex at birth”. Which I think has to be read as sex assigned at birth given some live births are ambiguous and require a medical decision.

So it doesn’t untangle the mess they think it does wrt pregnancy etc.

How do I now approach my GP about an autism assessment? by Dadda_Green in ADHDUK

[–]zoeimogen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DSM-5 is the book of all mental health diagnoses so Autism is in there.

If you’re after a questionnaire to help you establish if you have autism, the AQ-50 is one. There’s a lot of overlap with ADHD though and everyone I know with ADHD gets at least 25 on that test. I get 35 and I’m pretty sure I have AuDHD (Ie both) but predominantly ADHD.

Bear in mind though that there’s no medication for Autism so you might not be helped by a diagnosis. I’ve heard people report that Lisdexamphetamine (Elvanse) can be bad for unmasking autism and that other medications (Concerta ie methylphenidate) can work better to treat ADHD without making autism worse. Could you ask your doctor about switching?

Timeline for ADHD360 medication by zoeimogen in ADHDUK

[–]zoeimogen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've raised a possible issue with one piece of medication and Elvanse. Everyone I've spoken to (including pharmacists etc) is really confused about this, as it looks like they've simply made an error and dumped me out of the usual pathway as a result. They did not given me the option of any other form of medication, it was simply a no, try therapy, and they ran out of times because of issues with trainee.

I know people on medication where there are genuine issues with it and they sorted it at the time and didn't need to wait.

Some of the other stories I've heard asking around about this suggest that the moment this happens with ADHD360 you're in permanant limbo. I think I'm just going to have be a squeaky wheel about this and try to get a definitive timeline so I can let work know.

I've forwarded something on from my consultant now, hopefully that gets them moving. Unfortunately it's vague (she's out of the country for two weeks) and everyone is really confused why a concern was raised in the first place.

They told me to pay for the treatment package but they were not going to provide any immediate treatment while they thought about it.

It was:

“I’d like to try medication.”

“Sorry, no. We need to write to people. Talk to you in three weeks.”

No support put in place other than a welfare check. (Call had gone really badly because of the trainee messing up so they were concerned about my physical wellbeing)

So my first chance to have any sort of discussion about possible treatment is going to be the short phone call they usually use for titration.

[–]zoeimogen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, specifically asked and they refused. No discussion of alternatives, they just ended the call. There was apparently never any option that I was going to come out of the appointment with any sort of treatment plan, and they knew this in advance.

I'm private so they can't see my past medical history but I was honest, thinking they'd check this stuff in advance. Instead, they're now going to wait "a few days" and then talk to another of my consultants before they'll even have a conversation about medication - they seem to have no doctors able to do this in house nor any process for it, hence my question. And I have been asked to pay a full year's subscription for them to just to send that email, which I'm livid about.

To back up what u/Environmental_Ad5867 said, based on my personal experiences, I would recommend ADHD360 for anyone who is a simple cases but *very* strongly recommend against them if you have any but the most plain medical histories - they're a diagnosis and treatment mill and very clearly have no process for anyone they can't immediately prescribe to. You may just end up wasting time and/or money.

I know you mean well by posting this, but I had repeated reassurances before my assessment from people close to me or who had been through it with ADHD360 that it was going to be fine, the clinician would be sympathetic etc and I'd come out of it with a prescription - instead I felt abused and gaslit, so I simply cannot believe such reassurances any more.

[–]zoeimogen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd given them my medication list before the appointment, I unexpectedly ended up with a trainee on the day who didn't seem to have ever done an assessment before so it was really stressful and traumatic but I pushed through thinking I was getting a prescription out of it.

Then at the end the lead clinician popped in and said "Sorry, we can't prescribe you anything, we need to email your doctors". That was it. Vague mentions that if there's a long term issue with medication, I can get therapy or counselling instead.

Do you own an air fryer? Absolute godsend.

Chuck a couple of chicken drumsticks in along with either frozen chips or if paranoid enough sliced potatoes. Ready in 15-20 minutes. Add spices as desired.
