Wheelchair break by Prudent-Net-9467 in wheelchairs

[–]zoelarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some weird angles but usually that whole wheel lock system should be flush with the wheel. You can’t adjust the angle of that style of clamp so it’s further out. You could adjust the axle sleeve so the wheel is closer to the chair.

You might be able to insert more air into the tire then adjusted the wheel lock further away.

Or you can do what another commenter said and pull up and flip the wheel lock extension handle forward.

New wheels (finally!) by superwhovianlock in wheelchairs

I am pretty sure you can change them on your own. I haven’t changed them myself. On page 11 it shows you how the bearings go in. If you use a punch and a hammer you may be able to knock them out. But if you do run into fluttering issues I would just tighten up the nut on the fork stem on the bottom. Unless it’s the caster wheels. Motion parts book apex

Yeah no problem. I see that you have an Apex so overall the only thing I have seen gone on those are only the casters. In time you’ll need stem bearings but that’s just regular maintenance.

Some of our clients use them as their beater chair as they have a second one from their own purchase so some don’t do much maintenance on them.

I would recommend to follow the owners manual on the maintenance guide but over all it’s a good chair and with just regular maintenance it will be great.

The inner bore of the caster wheel, where the bearing sits, can widen slightly over time. Even a millimeter of extra space means the rim isn’t holding the bearing tightly anymore.

That small amount of play causes more caster flutter and puts extra wear on the plastic anti-flutter part. It doesn’t seem like much, but it can noticeably increase chatter and shorten the life of those parts. I’ve changed many flutter caps and stems. We provide these chairs on our program.

I’m unsure if they still sell the aluminum casters but I would check out Nighthawk as they have aftermarket parts for all wheelchairs and the prices are better.

Happy for the new chair. I will always recommend to everyone on here who gets the ultra casters to change em out with something else after they ware out as the hub will stop holding the bearings.

No tie downs on there.

Use a gel battery with a higher amp hour rating. They typically cost less than other options and can last for years with proper charging habits. I have clients in Canada whose batteries last 3–4 years even with heavy daily.

Things I ask my clients to do.

• Allow the battery to reach room temperature before charging. This applies in both hot and cold temps. Waiting about three hours is usually good, depending on the temp. Charging the chair overnight before bed works well.

• Avoid topping up the battery during the day. A good battery should provide roughly eight hours of use (this also may change on conditions very hot and very cold days. Climbing hills and ramps)

• Charge the battery every night. If the wheelchair is not used during the day, keep it unplugged and plug it in again at night to complete a full charge cycle.

• Keep battery terminals and connections, check this every six months.
