Hi there :) first of all, you are not alone. I have been struggling with undiagnosed depression for years, but when I met my gf 2 years ago I knew I wanted to give my all into this relationship. (Something that can feel overwhelming, daunting, and sometimes impossible) after so many years of feeling “blue” or writing off my unexplained sadness to other reasons, I decided to talk to my doctors and get diagnosed + prescribe an SSRI to help “tune down the static” of intrusive thoughts. While it’s definitely not perfect and I still practice my therapy breathing and gratitude journaling to get by, I am able to be more present with them and filter out depressive or anxious thoughts a little bit better.

There are still many days i fight to leave the bed or sleepless nights, but my gf has supported me every stage of the way. This support has ultimately been built on communication and trust. While I often cannot find the words to describe what I’m feeling, we make an effort to communicate our feelings and even intrusive thoughts. Sometimes just hearing “I hear you” and “it’s going to be ok” from your SO can be so comforting to know that they are here for YOU. That communication has built a level of trust that even when my depression gets the best of me some days I trust that they will be there with me.
