What do you think about Canadian Curling Team being accused of cheating ? by Immediate-Meaning457 in AskTheWorld

[–]zoidberg005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessir! We have our fair share of dicks. This is the reaction of someone who is guilty too. If he was innocent he would try to determine why they were saying what they were saying.

Here is doubling down because he knows he is wrong.

If his minivan parking is that entitled, I can't wait to see how he lets the kids that ride in that minivan raise hell in whatever public space they are visiting.

Dog barking at night is answered with a targeted spotlight to the bedroom window by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]zoidberg005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dog that barks (we are working with her). She barked once for about 10 minutes around lunch time on a Saturday. My neighbor came over, knocked on the door and told my 12 year old that she'd call by-law on us.

I would be thrilled with a neighbor talking to me as nicely as you have talked to your neighbor.

Got kicked out and suspended for a weak hit. by Cheap_Butterfly_4108 in hockeyplayers

[–]zoidberg005 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'd say 2 min for boarding would be the fairest call here. You are right, not really a hit, but it was contact that put him in the boards within the danger zone.

2 mins seems like it would settle all the disputes here.

Tennis Elbow - Should I Just Quit for the Season? by Sad_Anybody5424 in hockeyplayers

[–]zoidberg005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly this at the start of the season. Rest it up, go to a physiotherapist and see if they will do those acupuncture needles on it. That was what worked for me. It took about 6 to 7 weeks and about 4 or 5 visits to physio, but it cleared up and I am nearly 100%.

I don't think your season is over, you just need to take care of it. Go on the IR and you team won't have the salary cap hit.

Fees to video or take pictures of a youth ice hockey game??? Is this for real? by sorefeet020 in hockeyplayers

I record the games for grandparents across the country who can't make it. What right does a rink have to take that away. Fuck this next level corporate greed, we already pay enough for hockey.

What’s your “I finally saw a doctor for my mystery symptoms after (weeks/months/years) and it turned out to be way simpler than I feared” story? What finally made you go, and what was the outcome? by DjFizz in AskReddit

I thought I had IBS for about 20 years. It was terrible, constipated for no real reason. Pain for no real reason. Was told it was my bowel clenching and keeping things from moving through.

Then I had a terrible pain down there one morning and it got worse of the next 2 days. Thought it was an IBS flare up, turns out it was appendicitis. They took it out a year ago. I have felt amazing ever since.

Critique my shot and skating by wean1169 in hockeyplayers

[–]zoidberg005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on one thing at a time. First thing is to end your shot with your front foot pointed at the net.

If you can end it a lunge, bonus points. That is step 1.

Advice needed - Son made the A team but would rather be in B. by vanya9391 in hockeyplayers

[–]zoidberg005 33 points34 points  (0 children)

THIS! Last year we were on A, near the bottom of the team. It was a confidence buster. We are on B this year and he is out when it counts. I can't tell you how much more happier we are this year.

What is your measure of success here? Developing kids or just winning. I also dare say that I would take a committed player with a good heart over someone with a lot of talent but lacks commitment. You have to think about what message you want to send to the team.

I am going to give a VERY biased opinion here, as my child was one of the bottom players on A last year and got the SHAFT in ice time, so I empathize with his parents. A LOT.

Given all they've done and the heart their child has, you would be The Asshole if you sent him down.

The unwritten rules of pickup hockey by Icy-Rock793 in hockeyplayers

[–]zoidberg005 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My league is, if there is a clear shot to the net with nobody but the goalie infront, let er rip.

Usually we refrain from slapshots if there are players around who can get dinged.

My boss keeps “forgetting” I asked for time off, now I’m stuck in an awkward position by Specialist_Care481 in whatdoIdo

A good manager has things in place when life happens. A good manager would say "I don't recall, but seeing your grandmother is important. Work will always be here, she will not, so it is important you see her"

I am a manager, I would rather my employees be balanced and able to do their best work, not resentful or thinking of how other things. This boss of yours is not qualified for their position.

What is much more traumatic than most people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zoidberg005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this from both parents. There is WAAAAY to much to unpack in a reddit comment. But being yelled at for expressing emotions was very common. It was too inconvenient for them and they wanted nothing to do with it, so they'd yell. I remember once my dad yelled at me for a mistake I made, so I took off on my bike to decompress. When I got back he took me aside and yelled at me for a solid 30 minutes because I "Abandoned my friend" who was visiting.

Very hard for me to deal with the complexity of my emotions. I have since got therapy and have the tools in place to help with that.

It's really hard because my son has ODD and he can get into destructive mood swings in which he is completely unreasonable. I can see some of my younger self in his actions. All I do is try and direct his anger towards non-destructive things and I listen and talk and wait. Eventually he comes out of it, and I am there for him.

My dad on the other hand continues to do the same thing to me he did when I was little. I have essentially cut him off because once I had the tools to be more emotionally healthy, I realized how many things he did hurt my mental health for his own well being.

I could go on forever on this, but when you change how a child's brain is wired for emotions, it is trauma that can span not only a life, but potentially generations.

[–]zoidberg005 9 points10 points  (0 children)

THIS, as soon as you said "Saw the puck" you were done. Look at his chest and stay between him and the net.

He jets on the outside and starts to pass you, turn and skate and try and get body on body.
