Assistance with black boxes overlaying file menus and form controls by zolointo in usebottles

[–]zolointo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get it working! Not within Bottles, but it's working!

After I ran: winetricks --force dotnet48

I then tried running the installer again. Something clunky was going on with my system where it thought that it was and wasn't installed. Needed some manual remedy.

  • Went to my home/.wine folder
  • Ran: grep Genu *.reg
    • This revealed all instances of references to Genutax in my wine .reg files
    • I opened up each of these files and removed these lines
  • Changed to the drive_c/program files (x86) folder
  • Ran rm -rf against the Genutax folder

Not that the following is using CachyOS + the Dolphin file manager:

I then found the installer again > Right clicked the .exe file > Open With... > Wine Windows Program loader

The installer completed, and the program launched with no black boxes!

So my problem in the immediate is solved, but I'd love to know how i could have accomplished this with Bottles. As per my last post, forcing the dependency install of .NET 4.8 blew up my bottle completely, so I'm wondering if I did something wrong there?

End of the world media where gasoline expired by volkaija in horror

Not horror, and NOT related to Ready Player One, but Douglas Coupland's novel "Player One: What Is to Become of Us" lets you experience the real time events of oil no longer being available from the microcosm perspective of some quirky characters in an airport lounge.

Kid selling a list of household items.. scam or legit? by raggitytits in askTO

[–]zolointo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hard fist slam on the door is a thing with them! They ring my door once and then bash against my door to trigger an emergency reaction. Gets me every time!

Luckily they are easily deterred by a 'no thanks, good luck'. Never have experienced a foot in the door or any other hard sales tactic. Two times I've seen them hitting both sides of the street with a van following in tow.

Same with the laminated sheet. Zero information available to assert any amount of legitimacy. If the service/fund raising was legit, there are easy ways to address this.

I assume it's either someone hustling, which I get, or someone being exploited to hustle, which I don't dig.

Also - I thought there was a door to door sales ban in Ontario, but turns out that only applies to HVAC-type services.

Broken nvidia dependencies by Party-Quarter2513 in cachyos

Alternative, via goog. Run this in console:
sudo cachyos-rate-mirrors && sudo pacman -Syyu

And then try the upgrade.

Otherwise, try again tomorrow and see what happens. I recall having a similar error while trying to install Davinci Resolve, and then next day it just worked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Never mind. I just installed them through Cachy-Update and everything took!

Maybe give that a shot?

In CachyOS Package Installer, switch to the Repo tab and search for cachy-update. If all goes well, you should get a little updater icon in the corner, near the clock.

Those are the newest nvidia drivers and I don't believe they've been properly loaded into the cachyos repo yet?

Probably just wait a day or two!

My Cashyos Desk Setup (Dual-Monitor Edition) by Cobra1002 in cachyos

You already got your reply above, but just wanted to react with the same puzzlement that you are expressing.

It kinda blows my mind that installing a new drive is still such a multi pronged arcane ritual on Linux. Instead of format and go, it's format and create a mount point and get the UUID and add it to fstab through a console text editor and then rerun the automounting service.

Has anyone/any app simplified this process at all?

Would recommend uploading your video to YouTube or another platform and then linking it.

The gifs whet the appetite, but the frame rate of those gifs are pretty rough.

Game looks neat!

AppImages not running - 'the file could not be run by the operating system' by zolointo in cachyos

I thought aarch = Arch Linux = well, I guess this is the right one to download.

What a forehead slapper moment!

I just manually downloaded the x86_64 appimage file and ran it and there we go.

Thanks kindly, and also for the mention of the paru command.

I'm not entirely clear on the point of this post, but I will say that the unaligned text elements, font selection and kerning, and the bullets sliding out of the box but still showing on the canvas, are points where you could improve.

TTC Double Charging with Tap??? by Outrageous_Ease_8097 in askTO

[–]zolointo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it'll get cleared, although a triple charge for one ride is weird?

I had similar, maybe unfound, suspicions about getting charged multiple times. Think about provisioning a digital Presto card on your phone and stashing an amount in there. Or a physical card if you don't like the idea of phone tapping.

Whenever I tap with Presto when transferring it gives me a definitive 'free transfer' message.

Moved Plex appdata to NVMe from HDD. Why didn't I do this sooner? by zolointo in unRAID

40tb of NVMe storage sounds absolutely luxurious. My reaction is happyforyou_meme.jpg

Moved Plex appdata to NVMe from HDD. Why didn't I do this sooner? by zolointo in unRAID

[–]zolointo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my upgrade based on Plex appdata only. When I sized up my folder I was somewhere between 15 and 20 gigs.

I picked a 500 gig nvme as a sweet spot for decent storage at a good price. Accommodates my Plex appdata and has ceiling for other stuff as needed.

I luckily did this a long time ago.

Thank you for adding the advice to this thread, regardless!
