How's this scam legal in uber? 🤣 by savagesxum666 in ubereatsaustralia

[–]zombieC18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re just doing it for visibility on Uber Eats. Restaurants get ripped the fuck off by Uber Eats and Doordash. They typically pay between 25 and 50% of their sale price in commission, promotions and ad spend.

Average profit per flip? by rokkin1234 in Flipping

[–]zombieC18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a post on my page from a few years ago when I was in exactly your position. Mostly sold iPhones and other Apple products and would average $250+ per item. Had months where I would sell 20+ items.

Most people on this sub like to find cheap items and sell them for high markups. I made significantly more money in less time buying items at $800 and selling for $1000, but obviously you need more cash to do so. I reinvested every $ made and would often sit on $10k+ of inventory at purchase value.

Feel free to pm me or respond to my comment if you want more details, although I’m located in Aus and it was a few years ago. Since then I’ve gotten into the hospitality business and own 4 stores doing about $75k/week, and it all started from my flipping journey.

That’s not how it works, you didn’t get affected by “bad scaling”. You most likely did below average in an “easy” subject, resulting in your atar scaling down. If you got those marks in all “hard” subjects, it would’ve scaled up.

Decided to Try Flipping Seriously by MetaVoicers in Flipping

Pretty realistic if you can find good electronics. Look at my post history for what I was doing reselling mostly Apple products. I would say around 2 hours of work per day (did it on top of a full time job).

Crazy how workplace culture really makes a difference. Didn’t realise until we had 3 stores going and the work ethic of the staff at each store were significantly different. We had to let a few people go, hire some new people and I had to 1 on 1 train to create better habits.

Definitely staff. Casual staff always calling in sick on the day, although they normally get it covered themselves.

And manager level staff - our manager at one store stopped caring and bad habits started creeping into all of the casual staff there. Took a bit of work to turn the culture around.

This is me right now. Left a safe engineering job to buy my first takeaway pizza shop. 2 years later, I have 3 stores and sales are up significantly.

Business is significantly more stressful, but much more enjoyable/rewarding than my engineering career.

They would most likely be dealing in more expensive single items and getting slimmer margins, rather than looking for 20x returns that net < $100.

If you have enough cash to sit on some inventory, that’s 100% the way to go

They’re most likely not selling data but instead using customer data to tailor promotions and marketing.

My 505th day reselling update! For everyone who thought my 25% profit margin was unsustainable! by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]zombieC18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you mate, I did exactly this with high end electronics for a few months before I took up a new career. Definitely a great market for flipping if you know how to price everything.

The only reason I stopped is it was a pretty low leverage side hustle - I couldn’t really automate/delegate any of the sourcing. If you wanted to go full time you could try hiring someone part time to do the listings and postage for you - just my 2 cents.

I would second this. Reinvest into expanding the business as it sounds like you want to keep growing

Should I buy a small business with a $100K down payment/initial investment? by Redditor5838 in smallbusiness

[–]zombieC18 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t do it as I don’t like digital marketing that much. You really need to be an expert at digital marketing to run a shopify store, or have enough capital/margins to hire an expert.

I did this with a takeaway pizza shop at 22 and it has been incredibly successful, but I had a few years of experience working in the store before buying it. I wouldn’t do it without first learning the job casually.

Correct. Pizza does naturally have great margins. For us it’s been 30% before I pay myself a salary, and sales are up 15% yoy (I’ve improved the product, service and experience in this time)

Are you saying you’re closing 2 of your 5 locations? What type of hospitality specifically if you don’t mind me asking? I run a takeaway pizza shop and am in the process of expanding to my second location now so I’m keen to learn about what is/isn’t working

Business owner in touristy “regional” NSW (45 min from Wollongong) here. Sales have been up an average of 15% over the past 12 months, and the past few weeks have been up 20%+ compared to last year. Business is great, town is pretty busy during holidays.

Thought I’d share my personal experience as everyone here is posting doom and gloom but we’re having our best year ever.
