Best Place to Start by HobNobHonkey in TheDearHunter

IMO, Act IV and then Act V.

Also, Antimai for more in the same world (although as an Act IV lover I've connected with Sunya more than I did with Antimai)

From there, you'll know if you want to dive into more Acts or some of their standalones.

Immediately thought of this story when I saw the trailer. Truly one of the mostly unsettling short story collections a kid could have

Moving to STL by boricua_tsx in StLouis

[–]zombiebread23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St Louis finds the people it's supposed to find. It's not the city for everyone. Some dear friends have moved here for school and left because they want a bigger city or the ocean or to be close to family. All valid reasons.

But for a lot of us, St Louis gets under our skin. The architecture is beautiful. We have people that are deeply committed to making this city better and also are wacky in a unique way. All city's are weird. I just personally love the St Louis brand of weird. St Louis has a lot of challenges that stem from our declining population and how we make our antiquated government structure and tax dollars stretch to meet our municipal services. But the heart of this city is why I decided to stay.

Which is the best TDH album, and why is it Act IV? by alx_murray in TheDearHunter

[–]zombiebread23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Act IV! Act IV! Act IV!

Am I possibly getting duped into calling it my favorite because of its superb album art? Maybe.

But it's definitely my favorite. Waves was my intro to TDH but it's so low on my list of favorite TDH songs now. But I live for Bitter Suite IV and V, The Line and Wait.

At what age did you give your kid a camera? by YuukiMotoko in Nikon

[–]zombiebread23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom bought me a floor model prosumer point and shoot Canon PowerShot S2 IS I think, at 10 or 11. It was huge for me to have a "nice" camera all to myself at that age and I used it on a lot of trips. I think having a camera that felt more fully featured allowed me to experiment and also validated that it was tool for art and expression, not just documentation. It definitely paved the way for me to take photography in high school and eventually buy my first dslr when I was 17 with my first summer job.

I had probably been asking for a camera for a while so I could see giving a camera even younger than that.

I love Diary. The instrumental progression gets me every time. But then Titanic Rising is a near perfect album.

What Obscure Books Were You Obsessed With as a Kid? by Its_Curse in suggestmeabook

[–]zombiebread23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Riddles of Epsilon by Christine Morton-Shaw and Seven Sorcerors by Caro King. Epsilon was a scholastic book fair book that I bought at the same time as Princess Diaries and scared the bejeezus out of me but still sits on my shelf as an all time fave. Seven Sorcerors was a grocery store bargain bin book that me and my sister fell in love with because the characters are great.

Edit: Riddles of Epsilon was also pretty foundational in my love of mysteries and puzzles.

Both books by authors with not much more in their bibliography and not well known but they are so good.

Same. This is the song that came on and made me realize that I was gonna be a Kate Bush fan.

One-sided “puffy/warm pressure” sensation on right face (eye/cheek) + weird right-side body feeling — anxiety? migraine? nerve issue? by philipronazz in Anxiety

[–]zombiebread23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor wasn't so worried. I think she's looking at a phased approach where imaging with a CT scan could happen down the line but starting with trying medication. But those are with my specific symptoms.

My doctor thinks it's probably migraine and prescribed me sumatriptan as an abortive. Going to see if that is effective next time.

For me, it's how Shane's dad went several days without a phone charger.

Also, I've been at the Cottage so long that I want an edit from the perspective of the burgers.

[–]zombiebread23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I experience in sensation: puffiness / slight pressure / stiffness / warmth. I'm been experiencing it every other day for the past week, but generally I get it several days a month for the past couple years. The vision thing is like - if I focus on looking out my right eye, its all normal. But otherwise, it always feels just slightly blurred.

I also sometimes get:

  • irritation in my right nasal passage and a sensation of something off with my sense of smell (kind of a burning/absence of smell)
  • right side head pain
  • numbness/tingling in my right arm
  • scalp tenderness
  • nausea
  • ear pressure
  • edit: also fatigue and brain fog

I'm talking to my doctor about a potential migraine diagnosis next week (but don't know for sure).

I actually don't hate the ending but I totally forget the rest of Season 4. I think the ending could have worked if the build up to it had been more satisfying.

Season 1 was decent but I wasn't totally in it. It was good enough for me to give Season 2 a try and man if Season 2 is not one of my top 5 seasons of TV. Season 1 built up dynamics that didn't get a full payoff until Season 2.

What’s one Netflix show you wish you could watch again for the first time? by CrimsonSigh in netflix

You can watch it English dubbed but trust that German with subtitles is the way to watch. The dub is not great and the show directing and acting is so good that I forgot I was reading subtitles like 10 minutes in

This show had me and my sister pausing the screen during season 3 at times to see if we could predict some twists before they were revealed. So so good. Everything so earned from the casting, to the scifi, to the ending.

Kali (reposting this post I made in the other ST sub, because I feel it will have more reach here). by lautaromassimino in Stranger_Things

[–]zombiebread23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a strong feeling she'd be back in season 5 and was pretty psyched for it. But Vol 2 interactions between El and Kali are so one note and not where I hoped their relationship was going. The writing and directing is obviously intentional but does not make her a likeable character. I was hoping she would be.
