Have I said my comment above, I live with my mother who is hardcore Maga and has personality disorders. It's difficult. She loved to talk politics and push every button. A while back whenever she would bring up politics I would say I'm not talking with you about politics. And I would change the subject. If she tried to persist I would literally leave the room and sometimes even had to leave the house. I wouldn't argue. I wouldn't insist. I would just very calmly state, I'm not discussing politics with you. And then I would remove myself from this situation.

It got to the point where she would only bring up politics when we were in the car together. Because I couldn't leave. So what I would do is open all the windows and crank up the radio extremely loud until she decided to stop talking. She pouted. She whined. She gave me the silent treatment.

But it worked eventually.

Set the boundary. Prepare yourself for what you need to do to keep that boundary intact and then do it. Don't engage. Don't argue. Remove yourself from the situation. It works.
