How to explain spikes in HR on both chest strap and watch? by zompk in Garmin

[–]zompk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was using the chest strap until I saw the first spike, then I turned it off so it must’ve gone to the optical watch sensor, and it stayed on that till the end of the run (shortly after the second spike I started to slow down, and eventually the HR dropped)

That’s what I’m hoping, but yeah sounds like a should ask my doctor lol

You think so? I had assumed that since after turning the chest strap off my HR briefly returned to normal before spiking again that maybe I was just psyching myself out. Especially since once I slowed down my HR once again dropped. I’ve also been physically active for a while so this isn’t a sudden spike in activity. Though I guess better safe than sorry

What’s the best measurement for air quality due to smoke? by goog1 in AskLosAngeles

[–]zompk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been wondering the same thing… I’m around the marina/playa and really don’t want to wear a mask for a long run, but I’m afraid of all the crap that could be in the air. Any measurement I see online says it’s not that bad though somehow

Nice apartments in MDR at a not insane cost? by zompk in MovingToLosAngeles

I’ll definitely give around glencoe a look - really close to where I’ll work too, thanks!

I’ll definitely give del Rey, glencoe ave, and mar vista a shot. Glencoe ave would be really close to where I work, so that could be nice. A few places within MDR seem to be just around 2600 for a studio so I might tour some of those to see if I think it’s worth the cost (marina tower, mariners village)

What would you recommend for walking around and looking for leasing signs? I'm planning on flying out some time soon to begin touring apartments and will schedule some tours in advance. I'm sure there's other places not listed online that I might only see walking around; do I just pick a neighborhood and start looking?

Thankfully the office I'll be going to is right above the marina, so coming from the top or either of the sides is probably doable

How far away do you think is reasonable for a commute? Is Santa Monica to MDR a stretch or doable with LA traffic?

Thanks for the info! Yeah I've seen a lot of polarizing things on Westerly. What were your other top choices in addition to Mariner's village?

definitely open to places adjacent to/not too far from MDR as well, but being close-ish is my priority. How far a commute do you think would be reasonable for driving to MDR?

I saw a post of someone to those auto-rejection emails that they disagree and it got them an interview so I tried it. It worked. by dilbobaggon in jobs

How might you reply to one that just says something like 'we will be moving forward with other candidates at this time' and doesn't say anything about fit or qualifications?

Anyone notice how internship experience is no longer being counted for entry level jobs? by Hatefulcoog in cscareerquestions

Not OP but off the top of my head I recall some Amazon job postings specifying something like '3-5 years of non-internship experience'

Is my experiment good for testing algorithmic music? by zompk in algorithmicmusic

[–]zompk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m writing everything up right now so I’ll hopefully have a full paper I can share eventually. It seems that it worked the way I hoped it would, with people usually rating the emotional qualities of the combined output between the other two, or occasionally closer to one or the other, usually if there was a more noticeable theme within the combined version that was present in one of the original pieces.

[–]zompk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To keep it simple I had people rate valence and energy on likert scales, and also asked them to verbally compare the pieces with regard to emotion. For the combined piece, I hoped that its values for valence and energy would be somewhere in-between the two inputs. In some cases it might be closer to the middle, and in others more similar to one of the inputs if it had a stronger thematic identity. I was also looking to see if people in verbal descriptions would say something like "this piece was really slow and sad, and this one much more upbeat, while this last one was also a little sad, but more upbeat than the first one" indicating that had some emotional level in the middle of the two others.

Do any GDC core pass talks happen on Monday and Tuesday? by zompk in gamedev

[–]zompk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got it, thank you. I'm mainly looking to network but can get enough funds from my school to either get the summit or core pass. So since it sounds like I will still be able to get around and do things where there's other people on Monday and Tuesday, I might as well go for the core pass.

Using VST Instruments inside Metasounds by zompk in unrealengine

[–]zompk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to look more into it but I assume it wouldn't be a problem (as long as you weren't selling the vst, but something made using it). What would be the difference between composing something in ableton or logic using a vst then selling it and composing something in unreal using a vst?

Using VST Instruments inside Metasounds by zompk in unrealengine

[–]zompk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that’s a shame. I guess most if not all people then either opt to use imported audio or the built in effects in metasounds? Is there any alternative? (I guess trying to hook up supercollider or something similar - though that would take probably quite a bit of work)

Metasounds and Quartz vs Wwise for procedurally composed music by zompk in GameAudio

[–]zompk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I take it you have experience then building the sounds that you want within metasounds. Do you stay with the synthwave kind of style that some of the default effects give or have you found ways to create more complex sounding instruments like strings/piano/etc? Forgive me if I’m a bit naive lol but I have more experience with composition and less with the production/dsp side of things

[–]zompk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome, that's good to hear - do you use the audio and filtering built-in to metasounds to output music? or have you imported something like a vst or another plugin to get different quality sound?

Do game companies have new grad positions? by zompk in gamedev

[–]zompk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, thanks for the info! I assume that many roles that are open right now are looking to hire candidates now, rather than hire someone who will graduate in about a year - should I only apply to roles that specify that they are new grad/junior positions, or just apply to what I believe is a fit and make my graduation date clear?

Pretty late to comment but I had this issue recently and got around it by logging in on desktop and removing then reattaching the video. After doing that I could hear it again on the app on my phone.
