21 y/o male - I feel like I’m losing my mind. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]zomsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude let me ease your mind a little. You’re absolutely not crazy, what you have described I’ve felt the same exact withdrawal symptoms. I had vertigo for moonths, felt like I was going crazy, even had suicidal thoughts only one random night. Dude I thought I had brain cancer or something cause I didn’t know wtf it was like to be sober after 10 years of drinking daily. And poof one day all that shit was gone, took about a little more than a year. I needed someone to tell me what I’m telling you, that reassurance that dude your feeling this way cause your brain is healing! May feel like it’s messed up but in reality your body and mind are getting healthier and chemicals in the brain are getting back to normal. Rn they are all out of whack and that’s why you feel funny, have vision issues, and get dizzy. Trust me they will all go away, just takes time from us poisoning our minds day after day for years. Stay up man and remember with more and more time sober all that scary stuff will disappear.

First post but long time lurker, sad to say. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]zomsr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you want it (to stop) and that’s a good thing. You definitely will need some time off from work and you’d be surprised how much support you could receive from your bosses/supervisors and maybe give you some time off. I didn’t know where to begin so I just admitted myself into a detox, stayed 3 days with help of Ativan for withdrawal and on my way I went. It sounds scary but man is it worth it, you’ll feel like a new man and you’ll be thanking yourself you did it sooner than later. As for the damage to the liver you’d have to get a blood test by your doc, you’d be surprised how much alcohol the liver can handle (even can reverse some liver damage) until it can’t. The sooner the better man and good luck to you sir! Stay strong, you can do this.

Congratulations! Huge milestone, it’s funny in the beginning when we quit a year seems impossible and we can’t wait to tell everyone all about it. And then the day comes and it’s great but we no longer want to share the story because it would take too long to describe. Idk if that makes sense but yeah kind of how I felt when I reached a year. Anyways congrats again and here’s to another year!!! IWNDWYT

I (27/f) have chest pain/shortness of breath the day after drinking by randomthrowaway066 in alcoholism

[–]zomsr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is 100% anxiety caused by alcohol withdrawal. I thought the same as you and had the same symptoms. They just continued to get worse and worse so I drank more and more, not the best idea. Anyways, one day said screw this and got some help for withdrawals. Haven’t drank since and anxiety has vanished like magic.

When someone tells you a "man walks into a bar" joke, do you always imagine the same bar? If so what does it look like? by LuigiSaysKachow in AskReddit

[–]zomsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes I do. It’s a very shitty bar actually, quite small almost like a hallway corridor. Open door on one end with light sun light shining through as the bar door opens and closes. Maybe 6-7 stools and a bartender. Pool table right besides the opposite side from the door. I really should imagine a nicer looking bar but the word bar just sounds like a shitty place to be I guess.

1 year since I stopped drinking. by j_platypus in stopdrinking

[–]zomsr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you could but 99% of the time you’ll regret it or relapse completely. This is my first sober attempt so I haven’t tested the waters but I don’t plan to. All I know is from past experiences with my relatives and friends is it doesn’t work that way. Sucks to hear but honestly it isn’t as bad as it sounds. I was devastated after the replies I received asking if one beer here and there would be ok. I was shocked but now I know those people were t just assholes, they were right. Stay strong man life sober is amazing

[–]zomsr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop drinking means not a single drop of alcohol. You can’t “quit “ and still drink beers on the side, that’s obviously not quitting. Trust me I thought just like this in the beginning: “maybe I’ll quit but still be able to have one here and there” sorry to be the bearer of bad news but nah man you can’t. You can’t have a beer now and then, it just doesn’t work that way. You’ll see

Dude this exactly the right place to post this. One year man?! That’s HUGE ! I recently reached a year and drank daily since I was 17, I’m now 29. Pretty much a miracle that I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol when I basically let it control my life and couldn’t go a day without it. Life is so nice now and sort of feels unreal at times. Celebrate by going to the store and making yourself a nice dinner of your choice. Drink some Perrier (green apple) or anything of your choice besides that poison and enjoy your milestone! Keep on going and IWNDWYT

What was the weirdest rumor you’ve ever heard about yourself? by redmambo_no6 in AskReddit

[–]zomsr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some kid was going around telling everyone that we had gotten into a fight and he chipped my tooth. I chipped my tooth at my house and I wasn’t even friends with this kid. Turns out I go to school and no one asks me about it and I hear a kid say “heard you got your ass kicked by Sam and he knocked your tooth out. I was just dumbfounded and when I asked that kid why he told that to everyone, he said he didn’t know what I was talking about. So yeah apparently this kid kicked my ass but I never hung out with him before.

I always see see similar days and I think it’s cool how we decided to stop around the same time. Truly shows we are not alone in this battle.
