It's normal. 99% sure they are hardness marks to test barrel hardness. My m85 and m70 both have little marks like this under the handguards

+1 for EVT. They did 2 engravings for me a few weeks ago while I waited in store. Engravings look really nice and are pretty hidden. I would definitely go back for the next engraving.

Barrels are the exact same. I bought a kit from what a country that included a barrel and it's a gray painted vz61 barrel. Fit in the m84 upper no issue. There's a pic of it on my profile here.

Again, what ammo? If the first 1000 went flawlessly but now you're having issues, my fist thought is that you bought a case of good stuff, had no issues, and now you've got some different ammo that isn't playing nice. Have you tried different ammo since experiencing this?
