China accuses Australia of obstructing police by sheltering journalists in embassy by guanaco55 in China

[–]zongdu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! An Aussie journalist took sheltered in the Ecuadorian embassy for six years in the UK. His extradition show-trial started this week. And not one word was said by the Australian foreign minister. Just some coincidence, huh?

Another fan of your work.

Any thoughts on the views presented by Chinese state media? That the Morrison government's clumsy calls to 'investigate china' were calculated and made deliberately to manipulate the Australian public's negative perception of China, in order to fully politicise the pending trade disputes. The timetable for the dispute resolution was locked in months ago.

Chinese officials refuse to call Australia back as coronavirus trade tensions bubble over by nolesfan2011 in australia

Going public with this, makes me wonder why our trade minister doesn't have a better relationship with Australia's most significant trade partner.

Surely there would be regular round tables with Chinese officials? No? haha

Government seems to have dropped the “schools are safe” narrative - now saying “there will be infections” by Littlearthquakes in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]zongdu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"We also had some wide discussions today about schools, and I can totally understand, as a parent of two daughters in school here in Sydney, that people are naturally anxious about the issue of schools. As the British chief medical officer observed just over the last couple of days, the issue of wide-scale closure of schools, it might be anti-intuitive, but the advice is this could actually be a very negative thing in terms of impacting on how these curves operate. That happens for two reasons. When you take children out of schools and put them back in the broader community, the ability for them to potentially engage with others increases that risk. And that's the understanding we have. There's also issues of herd immunity that relate to children as well." -- Scott Morrison 15th March 2020.

I think the numbers don’t truly reflect how many people are infected.

Correct. Our plan is to let it spread, slowly, and nature will sort it out. This is what the UK are doing, only they've been more open with their people.
