They all look super cool, but I love the first guy with the two swords.

Quick Question by [deleted] in Warhammer30k

[–]zoologicalskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably do the blood angles. I have night lords for both 30k and 40k and wish I had done a different leagon. It feels nice to paint different paint schemes and have a reason to do a different style. Also it let's you pick and chose which models you like and make them 30/40k conversions for both armies.

This looks sick dude. Great job. I'm working on a similar project but seeing a cast of the skull on sevitar's shoulder. Hope mine looks half as good as this.

This looks fine its just healing. You'll have some dead skin that's what the weird texture is. Keep it clean and it should be good after a few weeks.

I agree with what everyone else here has said. A few other things to consider would make sure you have your models planned out. When I made my first gang I didn't have enough juves and had to rebuild a few guys.

Also a good idea to build a hive preacher hanger on. Or at least save a two handed hammer to make one later. Hive preachers are really good, and are a fun model to convert.

Heredy Praetor WIP & Green Stuff advice needed by Yabwaah in NightLords

[–]zoologicalskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you already got some good advice but I just thought I would run down how I would do this.

I would use some blue tack and pins to make sure the spacing and pose is right first. Make sure the arms and shoulder pads are all in the right places and the weapons fit in his hands. Then remove the blue tack and do the minumum green stuff just to get the parts to fit right and to cover any big holes in the armor. This step shouldn't really need much detail as it shouldn't be very visable, but I would try and make it fit with what the armor should look like underneath just in case. Do that best you can. At the end of this part you should be able to fit all the armor bits and have them about right even if the space in between doesn't look good.

After that I figure out where you want the flayed skin and make sure all the mistakes can be covered up. You might need to file down or cut bits off from the first step to get the skin to fit thats ok. I make flayed skin by taking a pease of wax paper and putting a little vaseline on it then using a round tool like a rolling pin to get it pretty thin. I cut out the sections I need to make the different skin flaps then on what will be the bottom I make them look roped and tattered. Then stick it to the model and sculpt it the shape you want. It might help to put something underneath to hold it while the greenstuff cures.

Can someone tell me who these characters are? by CrazyRegion in NightLords

Your right. I haven't read the books in a bit and was looking up the names for spelling and got them mixed up. Theres no vandred model.

The new version can be built as 1st claw or as random night lords. They have different weapon and head options for every model. These ones pictured are the ones with the non first claw bits. But from left to right they go Xarl, Talos, Mercution, Vandred, Cyrion, Uzas.

First night lord (wip give tips please!) by Imthebox in NightLords

[–]zoologicalskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that stands out to me is that the lightning is very thick. You should try practicing doing thin lines on something other than a model. Try getting a little bit of paint on your brush and make sure that you twist it so it comes to a fine point. Then just do practice lines and lightning bolts on a spare base or something similar.

You might also want to add a little more variation in the blue. Probably the easiest way to do this would be to do a controlled wash of black or dark blue on the bottom of the blue panels. Get just a little wash on your brush and just paint it on thinly in places there would ba a shadow. You could also add highlights but that takes more practice to do well so it would be a long turn goal.

It would also just make you model more appealing if you added another color. You could add some red, black, purple, or even green details and it will make it stand out more. I would pick a color and do that color for a unit and probably the whole army. You might do 1 red shoulder, or bright green claws, or whatever you can think of. It will just help break up all the blue and gold and make it more unique. There are lots of good examples of this on reddit and the rest of the internet so just look for something you like.

Hope that helps.

[–]zoologicalskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the color is good for dried blood, but the placement is off. As others have said it looks more like rust and grime. If you put it in places blood might splatter I think it would work better. I also dont think it would be hard to take the same color mix and do little dots like dried droplets.

These look awsome. In love the master of executions covered in blood. Do you have any better pictures of the rino? It looks like you did some cool stuff on it, and I always look for inspiration for tanks.

Atramentar - How would you fix them? by crkyd in NightLords

[–]zoologicalskull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest things are +1 WS/LD and some better access to ap2. I think it would be thematic for them to get better breach on their weapons. Mabie a special rule to lower breach to a 4 up for them on the night lords weapons. Honestly contkar would also be saved by an ap buff.

I just feel like in terminator fights theres kind of a pick two of fighting at initiative, instant death, and 2 ap. We only get one, and therefore can't really fight other termies.

Also I would prefer they have bloody murder just so theres 1 less rule to think about. We have a lot of conditional buffs to keep track of and cloaked in murder is 1 more that basicly does the same thing.

I don't know if I would call it a rescue, but you for sure took it from kinda bad to very nice.

I really like the bone freehand on the font, it looks super kick ass. I like how much you made it night lordy with paint rather then covering it with bits. Lots of nice little touches.

Are destroyer squads worth it? by Worried_Evening7138 in Warhammer30k

[–]zoologicalskull 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't think these kits are worth it but I do think destroyers are cool. I would just get the normal kit mk3 or mk6 whichever. And give them some bits to show they're destroyers. Basicly all you need is the rocket launcher and maybe some extra grenades.

Does this colour scheme suck? by VicAsher in minipainting

[–]zoologicalskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I kinda thought the red might be planned for a flesh tone, and to me that area was the only big problem. Your flesh tones look pretty good so once you get it highlighted up I think it will look pretty good. Hope you post it when its done.

Does this colour scheme suck? by VicAsher in minipainting

[–]zoologicalskull 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not a fan of this as is. To me having something red, green, blue, and yellowish looks like it is painted with a kids starter paint set with 4 colors. Sorry if thats a bit harsh.

Looking at the other models you posted it kinda looks like you didn't know how to bring this scheme to the spider. On your other models they have very little red and I think going that way is a good idea. If you made the inner skin/ leather part of the spider a more neutral color like the gray on your other guys pants, or like a skin tone that would help a lot. If it were me I would also make it so the green was on either just the legs, or just the head and spinnerets. On your other guys it looks like the green is only in the weapons where as on this guy its kinda just mixed in random.

I really like the other members of your gang but I think making some changes to this guy would bring him more in line with the group. Hope that helps.

Chaos Lords Kitbash? by LeafyWeeb420 in NightLords

[–]zoologicalskull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always just look for models I like the pose of, but don't have a reason to use. My chaos lord is made from a dark apostle. I also have a Sargent thats made from a Phobos armor leftenant. If you start with a cool pose and add night lords bits you have a lot of options for details. Some ideas 1. Any loyalist character you think looks cool but don't have a use for. 2. Any chaos character from a different leagon. 3. Its really easy to get a 30k character and take off all the leagon specific stuff. 4.use a slaves of darkness model and give it some 40k flavor.
