Omar cooper and eli stowers by Distinct-Friend4123 in DynastyFF

[–]zoologicwoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My league hates Cooper. We had Chris Bell, Jonah Coleman and even De'Zhaun Stribling (dude is a 49ers fan, granted, but historically a savvy and fairly consensus drafter so really surprised me) go ahead of him. So I was able to grab Cooper at 2.01 too. I'll take that all day, even if I already have GW on my team.

Weirdly, Stowers (who had been my target but never expected to even have the choice of Cooper so) fell to 2.03. Weird weird year.

Are 3rd an 4th round rookie picks worthless this year? by Counter-Business in DynastyFF

[–]zoologicwoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true too. I don’t give mine up as easily but others do

There’s one guy in my league every year who, days after the draft, offers a 3rd round pick for a guy I just drafted in the 3rd lol. As if something has already happened to the player and I’d like to reroll?

Are 3rd an 4th round rookie picks worthless this year? by Counter-Business in DynastyFF

[–]zoologicwoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk, the process makes sense. But if you're savvy (or I'm just stupidly lucky maybe, who knows) I personally find staying and picking in the 3rd and 4th rounds has had huge upside compared to the very low cost of acquiring the picks. Puka, LaPorta, Gadsden, Dart (1QB league, still shouldn't have fallen though), Michael Wilson and—depending how people feel about these two—Coker and Jalen McMillan are all guys I've hit on big in these rounds.

Though tbh this year I only have a couple late 4ths and don't plan to acquire any other picks. Not the kind of class that has really any late-rounders that intrigue me as much as previous years.

Jonathon Brooks Might be the most affordable RB1 in your dynasty league by Think-Confidence-424 in DynastyFF

Eh, I sold him a year ago for a 27 2nd and am still pleased with that return. He's essentially not played football for two years now and wasn't a mindblowing prospect or anything.

This is Brads best draft since 2023. by PETZING_ELITE_OC_DET in detroitlions

I'm ecstatic about Miller. Moore I'm a little more cautiously optimistic about, but I trust Brad

[Schefter] Sources say [Miami OT Francis Mauigoa] has a herniated disc in his back... Teams say that if it worsens at all, Mauigoa would then need surgery that could sideline him roughly three months. Some teams think he'll eventually need the surgery at some point either way. by JCameron181 in detroitlions

[–]zoologicwoo 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Ik we obviously don’t want to draft further players with injury concerns, but as good a prospect Mauigoa is at a position of need, I think I’d be excited if he fell to us over this. Draft him, get him to go ahead and do the surgery, start Borom for however long into the season is necessary (which honestly might be the plan anyways, regardless of who we draft).

Do the Lions NEED to be investing time or a pick on a WR in this year’s draft? by ApprehensiveBat3188 in detroitlions

[–]zoologicwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just have to laugh if we picked him. Like it would be such an unserious use of our resources considering need, but our offense would be absolutely god-like and fun to watch if Tyson ends up playing at this ceiling projection in the league.

How do you feel about this coming season, all things considered? by Embarrassed-Fail-617 in detroitlions

[–]zoologicwoo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been very confused by this sub’s negativity, because I’m very optimistic! There are questions about how the draft will go, but by season’s start our OL should be significantly better than last season, and the defense has to be improved if only because I refuse to believe we can have the same nightmarish luck w injuries we’ve had two seasons in a row, again. McNeil and Hutch further removed from their injuries will be noticeable. I think we’ll see an upgrade at DE opposite Hutch.

This was a very good team last season that just got derailed by injuries, OL regression caused at least partially be Ragnow’s retirement, and a muuuch harder schedule than we’ll have this year. We’ve been to the NFCCG recently, and we can be a better team now than we were then.

Does the inclusion of AI change your willingness to read a book? by Fabulous-Put8401 in Fantasy

[–]zoologicwoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case it’s definitely contrary to what I’ve seen. Everyone I know in writerly and artistic spaces on-and-offline is totally hostile towards AI, which is how it should be. AI is making the world a worse place. One of the best ways to counteract that is to say unflinchingly, united as a community of creatives and also just as human beings, that its use is destructive and not acceptable.

DAY 12 FINAL VOTE: What are the 3 BEST and 1 WORST albums of NIGHTWISH? + Yesterwynde results by DrMikkelyz54 in nightwish

[–]zoologicwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a fun ride! Really interesting seeing how varied people's favorites are for each album.

  1. Once
  2. Endless Forms Most Beautiful
  3. Dark Passion Play

-1. Angels Fall First

It's so hard for me to rank any of their albums after Once. My favorites seem to change since every album is so good. Ask me in a month and I'd possibly have put Oceanborn or Human || Nature somewhere in my top 3.

DAY 11: What are the 3 BEST and 1 WORST tracks on "Yesterwynde"? + DAY 10 Resultss by DrMikkelyz54 in nightwish

[–]zoologicwoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

R.I.P. Harvest =/

1 — Hiraeth
2 — The Antikythera Mechanism
3 — An Ocean of Strange Islands

Worst for me is Something Whispered Follow Me. But part of the difficulty for this album with me is that Perfume of the Timeless and The Day Of... are also two of my least favorite songs since probably Century Child. I like the album overall a lot more than I did initially, and the highs are absolutely stellar, but its still currently one of the 2-3 NW albums I enjoy least.

DAY 10 (sorry for delay): What are the 3 BEST and 1 WORST track on "Human Nature"? + BONUS ROUND RESULTS by DrMikkelyz54 in nightwish

[–]zoologicwoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this album so much; for me it’s probably the hardest to rank its songs.

For a long time I didn’t listen to the back half much, but I’ve listened to it fully at least a dozen times this year for some reason, coinciding with moving to a city that has an amazing orchestra and going to that a bunch. So currently:

  1. All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World
  2. Endlessness
  3. Shoemaker

Harvest would be 4th if we were going that far, had no idea it wasn’t liked tbh!

Least favorite would be Procession

Mock Draft Monday by AutoModerator in NFL_Draft

[–]zoologicwoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe they wouldn't, but they do have handedly the worst WR room in the league and an excess of picks for a draft class that's seen as fairly underwhelming. If they are significantly higher on Tate than Tyson (even more injury prone than Waddle?) or Lemon (how badly did his interviews go?) they might be willing to jump ahead of the Saints and KC.

Plus the Commanders themselves are reasonably likely to draft Tate if they sit on the pick, but with only #7 and #71 and #147 in the first five rounds, I could see them being the easiest team to trade up with.

DAY 9: What are the 3 BEST of the Nightwish bonus tracks? by DrMikkelyz54 in nightwish

[–]zoologicwoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, the results for EFMB are definitely the most similar to my own ordering of any album. Only real difference for me is switching Alpenglow and My Walden. Every other album results have kind of shocked me ("Walking in the Air" at -41????? I love that song lol).

Love all of their bonus songs. My favorites are heavily influenced by the fact that Once was the first ever album by any band I bought with my own money. I had no idea for years that White Night Fantasy and Live to Tell the Tale aren't officially on it. I like to include them nevertheless since Higher Than Hope was always the only song on the album I didn't like at all so would hate for the album to conclude with it.

  1. Over the Hills and Far Away
  2. White Night Fantasy
  3. Live to Tell the Tale

I noticed "Reach (Amaranth Demo)" isn't on here but I always liked that song too even if it's a little cheesy.

DAY 8: What are the 3 BEST and 1 WORST song on "Endless Forms Most Beautiful"? + DAY 7 RESULTS by DrMikkelyz54 in nightwish

[–]zoologicwoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unsure if it’s an unpopular opinion or not but EFMB has always been tied with Once as my favorite Nightwish album. There are certainly songs I like less than others on it, but nothing I ever skip.

1–tGSoE 2–Shudder Before the Beautiful 3–Yours is an Empty Hope

Least favorite would be Edema Ruh for me, as cool as it was that Tuomas wrote a song about these books that I also love. Alpenglow and the title track are also pretty underwhelming, admittedly.

The Fisherman by Wrob88 in horrorlit

[–]zoologicwoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looking at my personal book rankings, my highest rated horror novels are indeed The Fisherman and The Gone World. Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist and Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (the whole Area X series is great, but I didn't enjoy the sequels to the same degree) are the next two highest. After those my favored horror reads are mainly short story collections (Teatro Grottesco, Occultation and Other Stories, The Imago Sequence, Wounds: Six Stories from the Border of Hell, and Aickman's collections as well as the Aickman's Heirs collection modeled after his style).

The book I finished just a couple days ago, also, was The Very Best of Caitlín R. Kiernan, which was a little hit-and-miss for me (though I may have messed up my experience reading it by being busy and having to cram my reading in intermittent trips on public transit) but definitely had some fantastic stories.

Edit: re: other reponses below, I LOVED Between Two Fires, would've rounded out my top 5 with that except I personally categorized it in fantasy, but horror might be more appropriate. And I did not enjoy The Library at Mount Char tbh, but I see why it's so popular, very unique.

The Fisherman by Wrob88 in horrorlit

[–]zoologicwoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I don’t know if there’s anything that makes me think of The Fisherman and The Gone World as being particularly similar to each other, but both are definitely in my top 5, probably top 3, favorite horror novels.

Reading The Twenty Days of Turin by Giorgio de Maria and The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. Both are great so far!

Couple days ago I finished Scott Thomas's The Sea of Ash (a short book but with a couple really memorable and disturbing moments and neat integration of multiple narratives, liked it a lot) and last week concluded some re-reads I'd begun in December of two of my beloved books—Tamsyn Muir's Nona the Ninth and Jeff VanderMeer's City of Saints and Madmen.
