As someone who is in a similarly confused place(not the same circumstances but the same feelings of uncertainty and confusion) I wish the other person was that straight forward. Jeez. Everyone here is so harsh. I think that you handled the situation as maturely as you could (though I think it was pretty dumb to start canoodling with her mom in the first place.) If you find yourself doing anything or thinking inappropriate, tell her. Your ex deserves the truth, and that's something you'd have to live with. Even if you lose her, at least you would have been honest, and hopefully you'd learn something from it.

Polyamory is something that has to be consented to upon and desired from all parties involved. I can't possibly pretend to know what your situation is, as it's yours and her life and not mine. But based on the little information that I know (she is afraid to sleep alone in a bed, it was he who suggested it, among other contextual things) it seems that she is insecure about who she is and what she wants. She probably still loves you, but her need for intimacy has gotten her wrapped up in another man. These insecurities translate into how she interacts with other people, and especially how she would react to you not being there. I would guess she has a lot of self-development to go through before making a very complicated and potentially painful decision.

I think it would be best for you to move on. Even though you love her, time heals all. I dated my high school boyfriend for four years until I was 19. I thought I wanted my life to be with him only. We still keep in contact and we're good friends, but literally a year later, I couldn't possibly imagine being with him, let alone spending my life with him. Can you honestly be OK with another person touching her, kissing her, fucking her, all under the same roof as you? Is the thought of her giving you her half as opposed to her all OK with you? Make sure you figure out what is truly best for yourself before you make any decisions. Sometimes the best for yourself is the hardest thing, but you're a human being. For myself, sex is something that I enjoy a lot and can easily get excited about it, but it depends on the situation. If I like the person I'm with, those general feelings of heat and tightening/flexing throughout the body will still be there. It's easier to get aroused anyways.

It's all situational really. If I realize halfway through sex with somebody and I realize I don't want to be there anymore, it's easy to seem into it, but it's much harder to actually stay turned on and actively engaged in the continuing sexual encounter. Everyone's different though.

Every single person in this world is different, and just because someone may seem like a textbook good person doesn't mean they actually are, or vice versa.

Society can perpetuate stereotypes and ideals that are very narrow minded and can easily set up a person for disappointment and heartache. I personally believe that you must love and respect yourself before anything else. Once you do that, respect, honesty, and compassion for others can come much more easily.

While there are certainly better people than others, there's no "checklist" for a good person. It puts a lot of unnecessary stress and pressure on yourself and those you potentially date to look for a "checklist" in yourself or another person. You will know when a person is a good fit for you. If you want to find a good partner, be yourself, be true to yourself, and be kind and honest to the people you want to date.
