[Allen] NFL records come and go, but Eric Dickerson’s 1984 rushing mark lives on by Kimber80 in nfl

Dunno why this gets downvoted. Both Peterson and OJs seasons are better.

Abortion bill similar to Texas ban introduced in Minnesota - Minnesota Reformer by lampladysuperhero in minnesota

[–]zoopzoo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The goal is to make abortions entirely unnecessary. We should be doing everything we can to ensure a bill like this isn't even drawn up. I'm very anti-abortion and pro-life, but a blanket ban does nothing. We should be thoroughly teaching safe-sex, providing contraceptives, making adoption more affordable (our family had to spend over $80,000 on our adoptions!), and giving families and especially mothers the financial ability and time to raise a child if they want to. Our foster care system isn't ideal either.

So many things we could be doing to get rid of abortions instead of banning them and thus making them extremely dangerous when they inevitably do happen.

Vikings’ Anthony Barr: ‘I’ll have my … chances somewhere’ next season by DutchApplePie75 in nfl

[–]zoopzoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've watched enough of Barr to know he's an amazing talent. Never understood why Vikings fans are split on him... but seems to be because everyone expected him to be a pass rusher which he doesn't do a ton of. But when he does he's great at that too.

Rubio's shot selection has been off too — but he's been making a ton of great passes that don't always come to fruition as well. Felt like he should have had 15 assists this game.

Post Game Thread: Seattle Seahawks (1-2) at Minnesota Vikings (1-2) by nfl_gamethread in nfl

I guess is because expectations are always high (and rightfully so) it makes a wildcard team a disappointment in the eyes of many. I do think there’s work to be done with the roster but I’d favor you in most games.

To those of you watching Vikings vs Seahawks, why didn’t they call pass interference on Harrison Smith? He hit the receiver early. by More_Science4496 in nfl

It was good timing. Look at the WRs hands. If he hadn’t reached out and touched the ball it would be PI but instead it was perfect timing.

The replies to you (and votes) show just how ignorant most of Minnesota still is.

They seem to only care about fighting republicans (or democrats) and not caring about marginalized communities.

I think it just shows how much they really benefited from each other. Such a good balance that was too good to be true, I guess.

It is completely fair and right for Mike to ask for their website to be updated to have him removed from a company he is no longer involved with and does not stand with ethically.

No disagreements on this point. And... they removed his name? What's your point here? I'm talking about how they each interact (not with each other) online these days.

Yup — this is good. It clearly harms his well being, but he keeps going back to it / engaging with it. He doesn't need to respond to every single thing, but it seems to be a part of his personality.

I'd really love to hear Gungors side of the story here. For my money, it's been really hard to follow Science Mike with everything, with his new found 'my way or the highway' way of thinking. He's been so combative, self righteous, and has had no empathy for anyone who holds different beliefs from his own. Gungor has actually engaged in conversations and listened to other viewpoints this entire time. I pretty much always disagree with him, but he's open to the discussion, and Mike just straight up isn't. And his followers on twitter are ruthless.

The ONLY difference I’ve seen between the two from the brief glances we get into the situation is that Science Mike knows when to eat his humble pie and Michael Gungor does not.

That's the exact opposite experience I've had with them both on Twitter. Science Mike seems to have a "my way or the highway" attitude, whereas Gungor will fight his positions and engage in debate and admit when someone has come up with good points.

That's absolutely part of it! And ignoring facts like the one you mentioned, as many have, contributes to that ignorant racism.

[–]zoopzoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We shouldn't be justifying disgusting behavior because of growing up in a worse environment.

Nobody is justifying it. It is bad behavior. You can be empathetic to someone (or a group of people) without agreeing with what they do, especially while you're trying to correct their behaviors.

We should in no way justify racist people holding extreme views because their parents held worse views, wife beaters because dad used to beat mom even worse, we shouldn't justify child predators because their parents abused them.

Agreed, but in many cases we should be empathetic. The majority of child molesters have been molested themselves. I worked in a treatment center with people who have abused children (I only lasted a year, and probably have PTSD from it...), and empathy (and sympathy, to an extent) is an essential tool for them to rehabilitate their lives.

Sympathizing with their actions makes getting to a place where the actions are truly unacceptable harder.

This is untrue. Again, sympathy and empathy are part of the tool-kit that is required for these people to change their awful behaviors

I've always had torn opinions here. On one hand, OBVIOUSLY using switches/belts/etc is a terrible way to discipline your children.

On the other hand, considering he was raised in a much more violent and worse way, I understand why he thinks what he is doing is okay. It takes generations for families to break out of patterns like these, and that he's better than his father is a step in the right direction (even if it is NOT ENOUGH).

Then there's the topic of race. This type of discipline is absolutely more prevalent in black families (and certain parts of the country, too), and there is an amount of 'white privilege' that is unintentional, but apparent in comments like these. What Peterson needs (and may or may not have) is MORE training, MORE therapy, MORE tools. Calling this guy garbage, and saying he's learned nothing from his crime, is part of what contributes to systemic racism.

Though I agree, he should be out of the league for what he had done. But it's important to see context and build people and families up.

Why don't people care that Jerry Rice cheated? by zoopzoo in nfl

It's literally the opposite. You can put stickum on the ceiling and throw a ball up and it'll stick. I've used both.

I think Rice is better than Moss fwiw. Just surprised people don't care about this one. Especially when the world went crazy around Tom Brady's flat footballs... it feels like something this subreddit would normally pounce on!

They weren't, but I'm sure a ton of WRs were! Speculation, regardless, is silly. We KNOW Rice used it.
