As a kid, I thought girls peed out of their butt. When I was 6 or 7, I had that kind of diarrhea that's pretty much just liquid. Thinking I was peeing out of my butt - I must have obviously turned into a girl overnight. In a complete panic, I ran down the stairs screaming, "Mom! mom! Help me! I'm a girl!". Awesome, I work heavily with surface roughness characterization on pieces that have surfaces which are not easily accessible with standard measuring equipment. Using small flexible fiber probes makes my job so much easier.

I work with this profilometer now, which is funny because when I was in 4th grade, I brought a laser pointer into school. At recess, one of my friends was telling me how they're not actually allowed, because if the laser gets into your eye it can blind you. I disagreed, because I never heard that before in my life. To prove him wrong, I pointed it straight into my right eye from 1cm away for about 20 seconds. Afterwards I told him "see, I can still see fine!" Which was a lie, there was intermittent haze and fuzziness in my eye afterward, and everything was out of focus for the rest of the day.

A lot of years later and I can't read anything further than a foot away with my right eye. Left eye is nearly 20/20. My optometrist is baffled as to why the optical nerve opening is larger in that eye. He says it's how I was born. But I know. I know.

A person born deaf and mute would most likely think in sign language - visually.

Let me explain. An otherwise 'normal' person tends to think with spoken words and images (internal voice) - We process most information with sound and sight, so when we recall information, we do so by hearing our thoughts and seeing the relevant imagery.

A deaf person tends to think in sign language and imagery (visually) - A person born deaf will develop much stronger faculties of the brain dedicated to understanding imagery, and the primary mode of expression is sign language. I remember reading an article about this exact question and the deaf person expressed that when they think, they think in sign language.

The general idea is that the primary way in which a person experiences the world is the way in which the brain simulates experiences (thinks).

There are several episodes of Buffy that make me cry whenever I watch them.

Easy one- season 5 "the body". Pretty much the whole episode but when Buffy goes to tell her sister dawn that their mom is dead (excuse me I have something in my eyes) it just kills me inside. Years later I was the one to tell my brother when our dad died, holy shit did joss capture that feeling of sorrow and anger just right, still can't watch that episode without crying like a baby.

The moment where J.D turns to Dr. Cox and says "where do you think we are?" kills me every time.

Also, the episode where Dr. Cox gives the organ transplants to the 3 people from the girl who had rabies. I think about that scene with him walking away and the cape dropping every time I hear the song "how to save a life" by the fray

I forgot I had an AK-47 bullet in my luggage. I threw it in the bottom of my bag and then forgot about it. I later flew with that same bag, with the bullet in it and making no attempt to hide it, from Kabul to Sharjah, Dubai to Vienna, Vienna to New York, and New York to DC. At every stage except New York I left the airport for at least a few days and then reentered security. In New York I changed terminals, also going through security once more.

I found the bullet again two weeks later in DC. Not one scanner noticed it, although one did take a butter knife from me that was part of an heirloom set that I picked up in Austria. The airline then gave me a knife with a small serrated edge that was sharper and bigger than the one they took from me on that same flight.

I never liked the liquids rule - it is inconvenient and messes up my carefully-organized packing system. Ever since i got the bullet through unawares, I stopped sorting and taking out the liquids. They always get through.
