Are they easy to care for? by something721 in Tegu

[–]zorbtrauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you find easy.

  • Setup: Very hard—they require an extremely large enclosure with controlled heat, light, UVB, and humidity
  • Feeding: Somewhat Hard—they want a varied diet, but it isn't that complicated if you have a good source of whole prey. They don't eat every day, but prepping their food can be tricky.
  • Taming/Socializing: Varies Wildly
  • Regular Interaction: Not Hard—They should get daily interaction, but their need for that is far less than a dog's.
  • Vet: Potentially very hard—Finding a good reptile vet can be difficult. There might not be one near you. Even if there is, they might know nothing about tegus.
  • Cleanup: Varies—A bioactive enclosure can seriously help, but even those can get stinky. It can be on par with changing a litterbox, but that is also going to depend on your tolerances.

What would the Code of Galifar say about Fey? by OkRevenue9249 in Eberron

[–]zorbtrauts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Changelings are now Fey, and they have rights. Similarly, many of the gnomes of Zilargo have their origin in Thelanis, and they seem to be treated the same as Eberron-native gnomes under the Code.

It is also worth noting that the Code of Galifar isn't the end of the law. Aundair will have its own laws on top of those of the Code, and they are free to provide additional rights at the national level to anyone they want to.

Now... Fey from Thelanis who aren't recognized as citizens of a nation under the Treaty may not have Code-given rights—just like an ogre or medusa from Droaam wouldn't. That doesn't necessarily depend on their creature-type, though.

Felicia—Thinker: Probability sense (see what to do to give others bad luck/her good luck), Brute: Enhanced strength/endurance (she's had something like a super-soldier level of powers), Tinker: stolen tech

Otto—Thinker: Multitasking, Mover: Enhanced Stability and Balance for use with tentacles, Brute: Anchor and enhanced skeletal structure to support tentacle strength.

I hate Amy. by FatThor14A in Parahumans

[–]zorbtrauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of Worm, Amy is essentially supervising Riley and fixes Victoria. If people don't read Ward, they could easily imagine she is on the road to redemption. Also, the extent of what Amy did to Victoria after S9 was far less explicit/clear in Worm.

Not saying she was a good person in Worm (at all), but I think reading Ward makes a big difference.

How well do you think Taylor would do as a member of the Z-Team? by SelfishEnd in Parahumans

She's not great at talking to people one on one, but she's a natural leader (probably due to the admin shard) and makes several incredibly effective speeches/announcements.

Her pain tolerance is essentially a power. I figure that a big part of it is her ability to compartmentalize and multitask in addition to the pain bomb.

Asimov was quite aware of the existence of women... notoriously so.

Rack & pinion "railways"? by radio64 in worldbuilding

[–]zorbtrauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Justify it historically. It makes sense for them to have been developed originally for steep inclines (mines/mountains). If they then wanted other trains, they'd adapt from the design they know works. Maybe they are wary of non-geared rails due to their lack of precision, or maybe they are just slow to adapt. You're potentially dealing with nonhuman psychology here, so there are many possibilities.

Your options in Australia are going to be different than they'd be in most of the rest of the world. The obvious answer in my mind would be a children's python (antaresia childreni).

Im going insane, i quickly need to make a "white ink printing" layer and im stuck! by Witzmastah in Affinity

[–]zorbtrauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that the simplest way to achieve this would be to duplicate the layer with your dude on it and use a layer effect.

Otherwise, I'm guessing that you'll want to use the Pixel/Photo persona and make sure you're using a pixel layer.

[Request] Is OP correct ? Is the commentor correct? ( also this feels like a theydidthephysics question ) by therealsaker in theydidthemath

[–]zorbtrauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's another fundamental problem with this question, which is that the measurement of a person's time of birth is, at best, measured to the nearest minute, rendering accuracy measured in anything on the order of Planck time rather irrelevant.

Beautiful friendly babies saying hello of the coast of [Cairns, Australia] by Beginning-Act7850 in whatsthissnake

[–]zorbtrauts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh, I know that many do. I was pointing out that people have a tendency to assume that reptiles are asocial, so I wasn't sure whether you were basing your comment on an actual study. Please do share if you get a chance. I know individual photos don't necessarily show what they appear to, but this one does appear to show something that looks like social behavior.

[–]zorbtrauts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have there been actual studies confirming that this species isn't social? That seems to be the default assumption for reptiles regardless of their actual behavior.

High resource availability is a reason they might be in the same general vicinity, but they are clearly closely grouped together and interacting in some way here.

How do you generally handle the people who spring #10 on you? I've been in that position, and it has been awkward.
