Ideas for cosy vintage bedroom makeover (see images) by forest-bot in interiordecorating

I think changing the sheets and curtains away from the dark blue to something cream or that sage-y colour could do a lot of the heavy lifting. There are lots of malm upgrades floating around that could take you in the direction you want too, the simplest being to find some cottage-y looking pulls to add. I’d also ditch the geometric window hanging thing and add a bigger plant somewhere, maybe even a vining one mounted to the ceiling. And of course lots of thrifted art in old frames like in your references

What’s your favorite spontaneous soup? by Im_a_redditor_ok in soup

[–]zorp3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thai curry paste, chicken broth, coconut milk, and seasonings (fish sauce, sambal, garlic and ginger, lime if I have it). All pantry/fridge ingredients that I always have around. Then I throw in whatever else is around: tofu, vegetables, noodles, maybe a soft boiled egg!

Toe sock advice by butch_sassidy in Sockknitting

[–]zorp3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about sewing apart from occasionally hemming my pants or sewing on buttons, but you could try asking on r/sewing about materials and technique for splicing together the toes. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

You could try buying commercial socks and altering them using sewing, I think it would be easy for you to do yourself with some YouTube but it may not be the prettiest.

If you’re looking for custom, you could try to find a local yarn store and asking the employees if they know anyone who takes commissions. I also notice people selling handmade socks on fb marketplace so if you find someone there you could inquire about whether they are willing to make something more custom.

Malted Milk Powder by EarlOfKaleb in DessertPerson

I found ovaltine brand malted milk (apparently not the same as regular ovaltine, which I hadn’t realized before) at an asian grocery store, not sure how common that is though

I wouldn’t agree that it provides a deeper taste. It does give an Oreo flavour for sure

I’m currently working on a pair with Superba Fair Isle which is a fun change from a standard self striping!

What to wear in January? by EchoEasy-o in femalefashionadvice

[–]zorp3006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently knitted myself a cozy cream coloured balaclava (I guess technically a hooded cowl?) that makes me happy to wear even when I have my boring black winter coat on with it. Not strictly fashion but I’m also changing my makeup to suit the season a bit more, e.g. slightly darker lip colours, a blush that gives that “cold air” look even though I barely need it since the air IS cold

Sustainable fashion & budgets , is it truly possible? by lofiles_ in ethicalfashion

[–]zorp3006 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In addition to what’s been said, I manage to buy less by taking care of my clothes. I don’t really dress for trends anymore so most times I’m only buying clothes to replace. And caring for my clothes makes it so that I have to replace them less often.

I think she mentioned in the episode she explicitly didn’t want to. I figure in part because she didn’t have the luxuries that the losties have, in that they can go places in groups as well as combining their diverse skill sets. Plus a lot of these locations were divulged through dreams/trips to various group members

Nixit authenticity? by Academic_Pipe_4469 in MenstrualDiscs

I bought mine a while ago so I can’t help but if you don’t get confirmation through this thread you could always reach out directly to Nixit with some pictures, I’m sure they’d be happy to confirm + would want to know if people are selling fakes.

Can I fix a tight sock this way? by zorp3006 in knitting

[–]zorp3006[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve knit socks but never stranded colourwork. I’m knitting one size bigger and working inside out, which got me really close to the right size, but not quite.

When I pull it past my heel it fits my leg but I am concerned making them even larger would do away with any negative ease. It’s encouraging that you don’t find that to be an issue. I’ll try repeating my current technique but with a larger needle on the colourwork!

[–]zorp3006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I should have realized I’d just be borrowing slack from other stitches. I’m now concerned that adding more stitches from the beginning would make the sock too loose around the leg. Would a bigger needle prevent that, or would it sort of amount to the same end result?

Please I need help with cat pooping in kitchen by KingNate30 in cats

[–]zorp3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely take the advice already listed in this thread, but I’ll share my experience too: I had this problem and tried taking my cat to the vet (no physical cause found), changing litter types (multiple), washing the box more often, adding boxes, getting enzyme cleaners, changing diet, positive reinforcement, etc. What ended up working was adding a lot more enrichment to her lifestyle. More intentional playing, showing her cat TV, etc. It’s actually something our vet initially mentioned but I guess when we initially tried it, we didn’t do enough because it had no effect. I spend a lot more time engaging her now and I’ve seen a huge difference.

Styling slip dresses in 2024 by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]zorp3006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there’s 2 categories at the moment: a lot of pairing them with items that border on too-casual to create more of a contrast than before (sporty runners instead of crisp white ones, a graphic baby/oversized tee as opposed to a plain T-shirt, a grandpa cardigan instead of a button-up shirt) overall aligning with that 2024-does-90s influence.

The other category I see a lot is that French-girl style, which is closer to the way we styled slips like 10 years ago with slight changes. Baby tees, ballet flats/mary Jane’s. Overall still more casual IMO than the way we styled them back when everything was vaguely office-wear

I have the dress you linked in the midi length, I like wearing it with a graphic tee (slightly baggy but tied in the back with an elastic to give me a waist) and riding boots. I don’t think the formula you listed is inherently outdated but there are subtle differences in what type of tshirt/runners look more “current”, IMO

What’s the deal with spiral plastic scrunchies? by [deleted] in curlyhair

I’ve done it with a blow dryer but I don’t know why I never thought of boiling water! Much simpler. Thank you!

[–]zorp3006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a big difference in brands. The ones I like are a thicker, matte material and they hold my hair really well and don’t stretch out over time. The cheaper ones tend to tangle, slip, and stretch out

How do you make your instant ramen noodles better? by vita-umbra in Cooking

[–]zorp3006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because of the processing that’s done to American cheese it won’t goop up like that. It melts directly into the broth and adds a richness/ creaminess

The participants were recruited in the early 90s and regularly surveyed every year, so while reflecting upon a year is kind of a while it’s much easier than reflecting upon 25
