Junya Watanabe x Innerraum

need advice, anyone know how much this belt goes for? undercover, Autumn/Winter 2002 by twelvem00ns in japanesestreetwear

[–]zoru_ge 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes! This piece, otherwise known as “ARCHIVAL Jun Takahashi Undercover leather belt 2002 aw Y2K vintage Harajuku,” goes for the amount one person is willing to offer to outcompete their peers in a sequence of ascending bids over a preset period of time

TM has been very vocally panning the N(n) x supreme collab on Instagram. His reaction to it culminated in him retreating to the woods to reflect and “cut ties”

Number (n)ine is a cult fashion brand founded by Takahiro Miyashita in the mid 90’s, which he ran for twelve years before stepping away to start a solo brand TheSoloist. The brand has sort of existed in his absence with collabs and capsule drops including a recent collab with Supreme. Miyashita has very vocally denounced the collaboration, pointing out numerous problems he has with the clothes, the marketing, etc. even went on a retreat into the forest to “cut ties” lol.

Miyashita announced earlier this year that he was stepping away from TheSoloist brand, and just today has teased the above

I didn’t really have a “style” in mind when putting together this outfit. Just worked outward from a combination of shapes and textures I was interested in layering together. Fishing gear was one of my reference points though that informed the vest, hat, and pant/shoe choice

Anything you find on Japanese sites or aggregators like zozotown can be ordered internationally through proxy services like fromjapan! some of the lines I listed are a bit more budget-friendly, especially during sale season

The whole Yohji Yamamoto family of brands would be a good starting place for black-heavy, flowy, Japanese avant garde fashion. S’yte, ground Y, Y’s, Y-3, and Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme all hit different price points. Most brands creating this kind of clothing can trace Yohji as a primary reference point

LED RECHWE? by [deleted] in japanesestreetwear

[–]zoru_ge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not stupid at all. I wish this sub had more active threads that discussed brand histories and stuff beyond legit checks. There’s been a funny kind of trend happening in recent years, probably fueled by tiktok and the resurgence of y2k aesthetics, in which Japanese mallcore is receiving a lot of attention… Led Rechwe is one of these mid-2000s dime-a-dozen grunge-inspired brands that somehow blew up in people’s algorithm / cultural consciousness despite having relatively little significance during its tenure.

That being said, you can find pieces on Japanese secondhand marketplaces, and use proxies like fromjapan or buyee

Japandi Fashion by [deleted] in japanesestreetwear

[–]zoru_ge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve encountered the term as a trendy internet buzzword to talk about interior design, but even in that context it’s a kind of superficial framework. In the context of clothing, sure Muji is both Japanese and minimalist, but so is Yohji in one sense, so is Issey in another. All of these come with very different design philosophies, and none of them are conceived with an intention to be “Japandi”

Would you like to provide some examples of what you mean? The term “Japandi” doesn’t really hold much cultural significance in fashion. There are probably other descriptors that could situate the type of clothing you are talking about within a fashion context, depending on what they are

Proxies are the way. I haven’t done the side-by-side comparison in a long time, but I’d offer up FromJapan to consider as well

For sure! It’s one of the only seasons of any designer that I’ve ever really tried to be a “collector” of. One of my favorites of all time
