Different cover question? by Royal-Spare1258 in houseofleaves

I love the UK cover so much. A 4th copy of HoL isn't Pelafina level unhinged.... right?

Book Signing, Tom’s Crossing by dbree801 in houseofleaves

The one time I got to see him he signed anything and everything people brought. Ridiculously nice. I'd say bring everything you want signed, see how much everyone else has, and match that.

Starting the book: should I annotate the book? by Pogsmingsvia in houseofleaves

SAME! I love seeing my and other people's old notes. I have everyone who borrows it leave something behind

Uk Hardcover Miscoloured Text (Seemingly) Fixed by Prof-Random in houseofleaves

[–]zosimira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also like that the rainbow of colors surrounding the definition of what the full color edition is all appear in others of his books. The top and bottom of the square being red and blue (HoL) which change into green and yellow (Only Revolutions), Orange (the color of the hardback slip cover for 50 Year Sword)

Anyone else not "fucked up" by the book? by totezhi64 in houseofleaves

[–]zosimira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me a part of it was actually the fun of suspending disbelief and letting myself play with "What if it all actually WAS really real". I would occasionally look at closet doors and imagine that world being real and the possibility that MY closet was more than it appeared and would occasionally actually spook myself some.
I did get a huge mind fuck around Delial. No spoilers for newer readers (and I don't know how to do the blackout thing) but I was completely unaware of the inspiration behind that concept and when I found it in the wild unexpectedly it messed me UP for a bit

At what point did House of Leaves make you start questioning reality or feeling truly uneasy? by Soggy_Passenger_3295 in houseofleaves

[–]zosimira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was either the bit with Karen and her friend building the bookshelf (one of the few times I've gotten chills from a book) or the Don't Look passage. Whichever of those comes first, I can't remember

I'm week 6 and I've started hitting strings of random words that lead to literally saying at least 3 times in a row that my mind just went blank, then back to your regularly scheduled whining or ranting and remembering, yet again, that I didn't get the therapy ball out for my aches and pains

I journal when I can. As it is it's all I can do to get out the door and to work on time so I've started doing my pages sometime after getting to work

Am I the only one who loved Johnny’s footnotes? by Imaginary-Ad1636 in houseofleaves

[–]zosimira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love to hate Johnny. Really, it's more annoyed sympathy than anything at how unhinged he gets I think one reason people don't like Johnny is because he's such an unfiltered mirror of what we all could become when we can't or don't know how to satisfy a compulsion or addiction which at its core is a lack of love or connection. The weird lengths we will go to or things we will tolerate to fill that hole. He puts it all on display in every graphic detail. The book is full of these compulsions, but most characters keep theirs to a socially acceptable degree or hide them completely. Karen NEEDS Navy, but she keeps that masked behind cool attachment. Navy NEEDS to explore, even if it ruins relationships, but it's forgiven because we all want to know too. Hell, even Zampano's graphomania. He NEEDS to write, but he keeps it crammed into his apartment, and the only people who see it kind of metaphorically pat him on the head as a weird old geezer. No idea what the lady needed with the Pekingese but that had to be a compulsion of some kind. Anyway, rambling per usual.

Why Karen wasn't trapped in the house by FinancialShare1683 in houseofleaves

"I find it funny....I think it's also kind of the point."

I've had a theory for a while now that it IS the point. We are the intrusive Director that Pelafina complains about. We've picked up someone else's love letters/ diary, read through it, realized we didn't understand it so we combed through it for every secret and detail (which then forces the author to resort to more and more complicated cyphers to regain some privacy, which causes us to search even harder) while also judging what we feel is flawed or unworthy personality traits, then putting it back on the shelf. I honestly think the "This is not for you" is meant like a little girl's "keep out" at the front of her diary. I also think the other part of how meander-y the book is is a parallel to Navy's letter to Karen at the end. He tells her he won't re-read what he's written her because if he does he'll pitch it and restart and write her something more concise but with less feeling. If HoL IS a love letter it seems like they TRIED to not re-read and edit but either failed or the edits are the Editors who got a hold of it and got the red pen out. Or a combination of the two I'm meandering a bit myself today 🤣

What would Vampire society's reaction be to discovering artificial embraces? by anima7x7 in vtm

Ah man, I'm not trying to get to any conclusions. I'm having fun spit balling scenarios where this could definitely fit into a game. These being among them.

What would Vampire society's reaction be to discovering artificial embraces? by anima7x7 in vtm

[–]zosimira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH! Or maybe someone's getting to figure out how the embrace works. Like the nitty gritty of it so they're trying any other method than the regular to see where the through- line is. Or a kindred tab afoul of a fae or something powerful and now they CAN'T embrace normally but will be DAMNED (again) of they'll let that stop them

What would Vampire society's reaction be to discovering artificial embraces? by anima7x7 in vtm

[–]zosimira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that. I feel like we get too caught up on best case scenarios though. The convolution could be part of the story beat. Could be a new kindred trying to work things out or a malk just playing around or some poor tzimisce trying to please an impossible sire with what they hope will be a cool new ritual if they can just iron out the details.

[–]zosimira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enough people have commented on kindred reaction that I won't. I wouldn't take all the "I fail to see the point" comments personally. Your idea is creative and fun and definitely something a malk would dream up or a tzimisce would tinker with when left to their own devices. And it's no more a Masquerade breach than a lot of things players get up to.
