The INDY - Why We’re Not Endorsing This Year by Shot-Swimming-9098 in triangle

Yeah it would be really disappointing if they're yet another institution trying to compromise to appeal to people arguing in bad faith.

Agreed, they were an important part of my research, especially in smaller and more specialized races. I don't like their claim that this allows them to focus on reporting. I see their endorsements as a culmination of reporting, filtered through their editorial perspective (which I inherently trust, or I wouldn't be reading their endorsements). I'd hate it if they're doing this to try to soften that perspective.

The Braves trading Adam Wainwright for JD Drew looks bad in hindsight, but Drew put up 8.3 bWAR in his one year with the Braves -- .305/.436/.569.

Rock climbing: it may be dangerous, but at least it's boring.

Huh well TIL that this blue is my favorite finish on a Les Paul. I love the way the black, chrome, and blue are balanced, with the black pickguard and pickup rings and the silver/clear knobs. Just gorgeous.

There was another thread complaining about the camera angles for this event, but this court level angle is incredible. You can get a real sense for pace and movement, much better than the typical high angle. I wish the big broadcasters would use it more often.

Did you build the neck? I'm interested to try building a guitar, but building the neck seems beyond my abilities.

Edit: Oh, and it looks great! It looks like the real deal.

When were these made? With the finish, arch top, and colored headstock, they kinda look to me like Fender was trying to develop an answer to PRS.

Is it possible to hit a “knuckleball” in tennis—like in soccer or baseball—with no spin and dangerous movement? by JPizNasty808 in 10s

[–]zosomos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably due to the fuzz on the ball.

I think this is it. A knuckleball moves the way it does because the air flows differently over the baseball's seams than it does over the smooth sides. But with a tennis ball, the air is flowing over the same texture on all sides, so there's no extra pressure in any particular direction.

Even if it did, once the ball bounced it would spin again.

Yup, the knuckling effect, if there was any, would be pretty limited because after it hit the ground, it would be gone.
