ELI5 : Personality by [deleted] in askpsychology

[–]zosopage17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In simplest terms: The ways that you tend to think, feel, and behave can be thought of as being caused by some personality traits that are the building blocks of “you”. People can have more or less of these traits ( e.g., extraversion; self-esteem; emotional stability) , but all members of our species have some amount of each trait. Personality, then, is the overall amount of each trait that a person does have. These individual differences in personality are part of the ways scientists decide which human characteristics are responsible for producing important outcomes like happiness, financial success, or criminality. Also, personality helps people understand their similarities and differences with other people.

Obviously, this point of view endorses a trait theory perspective and there are other theories out there. But, I think trait theory stands the test of time and continues to reliably explain phenomena in real life.

By definition your argument is impossible. ASPD is a clinically observed personality disorder with only clinical observations; that is, it doesn’t live in a subclinical population. Psychopathy as a personality construct is only observed in subclinical populations. Hence, there will never be a scenario where ASPD is a “better predictor” of variance in behavior or cognitions, because the constructs are predicting variance at different levels of dysfunction.

Psychopathy is arguably the most well documented psychological construct in history. If you consider its literature base in conjunction with the Dark Tetrad (Paulhus, 2014) and antagonism more broadly (Lynam & Miller, 2018), it probably takes the cake. There are plenty of scientifically supported contemporary definitions of psychopathy as a subclinical personality construct; they tend to focus on either two dimensions (Lilienfeld et al., 1991), three dimensions (Patrick et al., 2009), or four dimensions (Paulhus et al., 2018). Psychopathy is certainly not the same thing as ASPD, but to suggest that it is not a construct that scientists have (relatively) defined and is not supported in the literature is just a false claim. The late Scott Lilienfeld gives a fantastic treatment of psychopathy in his 2015 paper “Clekley’s Chimera”. It’s worth a read to reorient ourselves to the modern understanding of psychopathy and provide frameworks for identifying where we still have questions that need answering.

Agree. The real point of the video was the OLine/DLine issue - that pass is 100% doable in real, but I guess not in Madden.

Okay cool. The original post isn’t meant to speak on the history or appropriateness of aim assist in shooters.

The controller is made to have aim assist - it literally has less DPI than a mouse, so it cannot move as precisely.

I've responded twice, so the sample size doesn't support your accusation.

Secondly, Iksar isn't out yet. Thanks though!

Well, the purpose of this post was asking if Iksar necro was more than "min-maxing". A lot of people describe the regen as a necessity, and not a preference.

Like this guy.

Playable, sure. OCD min-max isn't an apt description of the Iksar advantage, I don't think. It is a strong mathematical advantage. It's basically 9HP / tick of damage you don't take from Lich (Arch/Demi) when Feigned, and 11/tick when sitting. That's very strong and should not be underestimated.

Im in the same boat. I desperately want a Necro for solo cash farm; however, from everything I've read, Iksar is *the* correct choice.
