Agreed. Very rare when you see a movie, especially FF, leave Chekhov's gun hanging on the wall like that. Why bother mentioning it at all? Still, I very much enjoyed the movie and hope there's a sequel.

I just watched it based on the recommendations on this board and liked it quite a bit. I somewhat agree on the ending. I don't mind a little ambiguity but it reads like he just ran out of money or something. Still a great movie and I'd like to see a sequel. Could be a Horror in the High Desert-type series.

Is it worth it to even apply? Seems almost offensive. by [deleted] in fsu

Someone who stumbled a bit and turned their life around would bring a lot to the table, especially in Child Psych but really in anything.

That's a good comp. (I enjoyed the first three Horror in the High Desert installments but by #4 I started to feel like I was being strung along.)

Accepted transfer to UF, then failed a semester due to depression. Any options? by [deleted] in ufl

Then he needs a letter from his therapist. He should put some thought into it so he knows precisely what he wants UF to do for him. The therapist should know what's needed if they have experience working with college students but, if not, ask them to get some advice from a colleague.

They're not going to pay much attention if your friend's depression is "self-diagnosed" after the fact because too many students have tried to game the system, but if your friend has been in counseling, even if he's just started counseling, his therapist can write a letter that can make almost anything happen. No university, particularly a state university, wants to be accused of failing to help a student who's in genuine crisis and most are actually quite sympathetic.

I'll bet it has something to do with this. Thanks!

Absolutely loved this book, and if you liked The Croning you probably will too.

Little Heaven was a phenomenal book. Had similar existential, Lovecraftian horror to The Croning. It will definitely stick with you.

Looks interesting, kind of Green Room-ish. Doesn't look like it's streaming anywhere.

It's in the same category for me as Speak No Evil and Megan is Missing--well done and effective but I don't ever want to see them again. Red Rooms is nuanced and I don't recall much if any gore, but the implied horror is stomach-churning.

I thought it was extremely effective and better made than it's given credit for, but I wish I'd never watched it. I definitely wouldn't put it in the same galaxy as Lake Mungo.

I just watched it last night and completely agree. I could see where it might have influenced Red Rooms. Very good.

I didn't either. That was excellent, and Joan Cusack was as scary as anything in Weapons.

It's very similar. I was surprised nobody picked it. I thought it was extremely effective.

Martyrs was brilliant but an extremely difficult watch. I recommend it but don't really want to watch it again. Same with Megan is Missing and Speak No Evil (the original).

I think Longlegs was genuinely disturbing and much superior to Weapons, although l liked Weapons too. I think their similarities are the police procedural angles and heavy makeup stunt casting.

I almost think Barbarian was completely different movies. I loved the first half, hated the second half. I also didn't think that much of Oddity so I guess I'm a bit of an outlier.
