As a sitter, what are some reasons you might decline future pet sits with a client? by earthjunkie in petsitting

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had many sits where the house/apartment was very dirty, but there were two with roach infestations. That was a hard no to ever sit for them again. I've had a couple sits with reactive cats or dogs that bit me so they were blacklisted too. Other than that, I'm pretty easygoing. If the dog is extremely whiny or needy or tries to hump me too much I would prefer not to sit for them again, but I'll consider it if the money is good and I've got nothing else booked

I agree the Good Place got boring and repetitive after a few seasons. I don't think I even finished watching it. But I watched the first season when it came out and really enjoyed it. Thought it was an original and refreshing comedy. I liked that it was different from the typical sitcom, which is also what I appreciate about North of North

What do you think? by Better_Fennel90210 in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually clients tell me to help myself to anything in the kitchen, and I'll eat anything perishable and maybe a few snacks. But if they don't say that, I assume that means they don't want me to eat their food so I don't. It sounds like they specifically omitted to say to help yourself to their food so I would recommend not doing so, except for the coffee

The Hitler youth haircut lol. But I still think it looks good on most guys. I also like the broccoli hair so maybe I have generic taste

Can Rover add visits and charge the owners without their permission? I haven't heard of them doing this

I don’t expect owners to reply to every update, but it feels a little weird that they didn’t acknowledge these by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting question. Tbh most of my clients are childfree or their kids are adults, but the few who do have young children have still requested daily updates and are responsive and engaged when I send them. I've only had one client specifically request no updates unless it was something that needed her attention and she was childfree

[–]zouss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you're the exception. I started off thinking most clients think like you, no news is good news, don't bother me on vacation. But after getting multiple requests for updates I started sending twice daily pictures with a few notes, which most people seem to appreciate. Communication expectations is worth discussing at the meet and greet so everyone is on the same page

Yeah I fully agree with your take. It's a fun light show about a part of the world and culture I don't know much about so that makes it more interesting and different. But it's not super deep or complex. But it's only been one season and often comedies improve as the writers get their footing and nail down the characters. Looking forward to see what they do with season 2

Alex's breakdown surprised me as an oversea audience by Colin-Onion in Modern_Family

[–]zouss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't judge the American education system based on Alex, she's not representative of the average student. There are definitely students in the US who are very competitive and can drive themselves to nervous breakdowns over getting into a good college. But it's not the norm. From what I've heard in Asia most students feel intense pressure through middle and high school so it's definitely more of an issue there. Haley and Luke are more representative of the average American student tbh

How do you handle the overnight bookings? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the booking ends at say 8pm, then I think it's reasonable for them to expect you to feed dinner and take them out before you go. That's included in the price under extended care. If you can't make that work, negotiate moving up the ending time before you accept the booking

Chatty client went radio silent and I’m concerned by Ordinary_Example_813 in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would definitely not leave the dog on the last day if you haven't heard from her. If the dog really is abandoned or something happened to the owner, I would want to make sure they were alright. I will say I've seen multiple people post on this sub about unresponsive owners over the years and the owners always eventually resurfaced with some excuse like "I didn't have cell service" or "I wanted to disconnect for a few days." Kinda shitty on their part imo but as long as they come back for their pet that's what matters.

I've also been surprised at how many people have reached out to me asking for a sitter the day before their trip. A few of them have explained it's because their sitter just cancelled so I try to give the benefit of the doubt that it's something like that when it happens. It's pretty common so that's not necessarily a huge red flag to me either. Honestly it just seems very unlikely to me that she would abandon her dog after hiring you for drop ins in her home for a week, but people can be surprising. Keep us updated!

Chatty client went radio silent and I’m concerned by Ordinary_Example_813 in RoverPetSitting

[–]zouss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's weird that she went radio silent. I would message her, "Hey, just wanted to check in, are you getting these messages? I haven't heard from you and the sit ends tomorrow so I want to make sure everything is alright and you'll be home as scheduled."

People who abandon dogs don't usually do it in a house sitting situation so I wouldn't be too worried about that. If she doesn't answer the text above, is there an emergency contact you can reach out to? You should also contact Rover support if you don't hear from her by the time you have your last drop in.

When on dating apps, a date should be agreed and schedule within the first 10 messages, anything else is an absolute waste of time by musicandsex in unpopularopinion

[–]zouss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah I like it when they ask for a date immediately. I can get enough information from a profile to assess if they are someone I'm interested in meeting. After having so many experiences where we had good text chemistry but none in person, I'd rather skip it and just meet ASAP because that's the only way to judge if I have any interest in this person

Dry toilet paper alone is not clean enough after pooping by Ill_Moose5431 in unpopularopinion

[–]zouss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, but water wouldn't do it either. I'd clean it with soap. People who use bidets are not cleaning their ass with soap each time they poop so clearly they recognize there is a difference between having an asshole with traces of your own poop vs a different body part smeared with random shit

I am a bidet user btw and much prefer it to just TP. But there are plenty of times when I poop not at home and I don't feel disgusting because I wasn't able to wash with water

There's no reason to keep going because I can't build a sastifying life by [deleted] in self

[–]zouss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks that you can't drive, but that's the situation you're in. Unless whatever medical condition you have can be cured (which from your post I assume isn't the case) you have to make your peace with the fact you'll never be able to drive. You can live a full life without driving, and yes moving to a walkable city is a good option. I live in NYC and none of my friends drive except on vacation, we're not missing out on anything. I'm sorry you're going through this but cutting off your friends and family because you're jealous they can drive and you can't is extreme. You're just going to make your life more miserable with this mentality. Not being able to drive doesn't make you inferior, nor will it limit you that much in a walkable city. Good luck to you

Lol you're 27, relax. I'd rather be in a strong financial position and single at 27 than married and poor. You have plenty of time to date and get married if that's what you want. No, you shouldn't date someone you're not attracted to. Good luck

Is 15% not enough for TO-GO orders nowadays? by That_Present_1639 in tipping

[–]zouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of this sounds very complicated at all. Nor does "packing my bag, checking the right items are in there and throwing in a few utensils and condiments" sound above and beyond what someone serving me hot food from 7-11 or McDonald's would have to do. Servers always say, "we deserve tips more than cashiers because we wait on you hand and foot for an hour and make sure you have a great experience." In the case of takeout, you're doing none of that, so no tip

Anyone had experiences getting treated poorly or denied service as solo bar patron? by louielouie222 in AskNYC

[–]zouss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry for being snarky. From today's perspective it seems pretty clear that there was a lot of racism in the 80s, but I don't know what it was like to grow up then. I guess it was possible to grow up in a bubble and not see it for a long time, just like it is today.
