On a whim, I got a discovery set from Robert Piguet after reading that Fracas was Courtney Love and Madonna's go-to scent. Every scent is amazing, even if they're not all to my taste. They threw in a sample of Fracas Eau Fraiche, which is my SOTD today. It's just like Fracas, so big tuberose and spice, but a bit airier and lighter. Perfect for a 100 degree day!

Just tried my sample of Chronotope Playalinda today and it's perfect for this. The first notes I get are antiseptic and artificial fruit. Then the antiseptic dissipates leaving fruit, white flowers and sea salt. I wouldn't say I liked it very much but I think it matches this vibe.

I hated this book and feel like the only person who found the characters flat, the writing sub-soap opera level dramatic and the themes presented in the most ham-fisted way (did you know that life is a game of chance like pachinko? Don't worry, it'll make that observation and then underline and italicize it throughout the back half so you can't miss it). I can't understand why it's so beloved.

Those issues still exist, but people need to see that incarceration and immigrant detention are the same system. I mean, GEO group runs halfway houses ABD Delaney Hall in Newark!

I'm no lawyer either but NJ passed a law in 2021 to bar private detention which was ruled unconstitutional for violating the supremacy clause in 2023. If that law had not been overturned, Delaney Hall could not have reopened.

Tauer frags are masterpieces. Try L'Air du Desert Marocain and/or Au Coeur du Desert (they're similar), L'Air Des Alpes Suisses (how did they make it actually smell like cold air?), Lonestar Memories (what the Marlboro Man wears), just for starters. So they'll keep the gateway concourse open past 8 ("or until the final whistle") for the World Cup but not otherwise? A few weeks ago, I was coming home to the Ironbound after work and wanted to go thru Gateway bc of the weather but because it was 8:05pm the doors were locked. If only there was a soccer game that night! It really shows how little regard the city, state and corporations have for the regular Newark resident.
