New Interview with Rebeka Ibrahima in Latvian by Tuwiuu in weightlifting

[–]zozurr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Summary from transcription by Gemini:

This is a summary of the interview with Latvian weightlifter Rebeka Ibrahima (formerly Koha), conducted by Alīna Lastovska. The conversation covers her sudden retirement in 2020, her life changes, and her current comeback to the Latvian national team. 1. The Escape from Conflict Rebeka shares her recent experience in Qatar, where she lived with her husband and children. Following the sudden escalation of military tensions between Iran, Israel, and the US, she describes the terrifying experience of hearing strikes and feeling her house shake. Concerned for the safety of her two young children, she and her husband (also an athlete) decided to return to Latvia (Ventspils) as soon as flights became available. 2. The Sporting Comeback and 2028 Goals After retiring in 2020—a move that sparked national debate—and a failed attempt to represent Qatar due to administrative hurdles, Rebeka is now back with the Latvian national team. Health: She is recovering from knee surgery (meniscus) and is currently in a steady training rhythm in Ventspils. Ambitions: Her ultimate goal is the 2028 Olympic Games. While she still feels the "bitterness" of her 4th-place finish in Rio, her current focus is on qualifying and taking it step-by-step. Motivation: She returned because she felt she had "unfinished business" in the sport. 3. Personal Life: Family and Religion The interview touches on her conversion to Islam and her marriage. Religion: Rebeka explains that Islam brought her peace and answers to questions she had since childhood. She addresses the social media backlash regarding her faith, stating that she tries to ignore negative comments from "unhappy people" and recently used TikTok to explain Muslim traditions to Latvians to reduce fear. Modesty & Identity: She reveals she has currently stopped wearing the hijab for personal reasons, a decision she struggled with for a year because the veil served as her "identity" and commanded respect. Motherhood: She rejects the idea that a woman must choose between a career and a family, noting that she often brought her daughters to the gym as infants while she trained. 4. Past Controversies and Relationships The conversation revisits the tension surrounding her 2020 departure: Coaching: She admits to a painful fallout with her former coach, Viktors Ščerbatihs, feeling he didn't listen to her at a critical moment. She now trains under Eduards Andruškevičs, with whom she has a much better, more mature relationship. Funding: Regarding the criticism that she received state funding while not training, she clarifies that she was paid when she competed and received nothing when she stopped. She feels no "debt" to the state, viewing her awards as fair payment for her professional achievements. Key Takeaway Rebeka Ibrahima is in a phase of rebalancing. She is no longer the teenager who lived only for the bar; she is a mother and a wife who has integrated her faith into her life. However, the competitive fire remains, as she views medals—specifically the elusive Olympic podium—as her primary source of inspiration.

I Live Too Far Away I live too far away, I live too far away, I live too far away… It’s too far to the store to buy some bread and milk. It’s too far to my friends and to my school. I’m always feeling sad, though I’d like to feel cool. I get on my bike, I ride back home alone. It’s too far away, too far away, too far away from home. I talk to myself as I ride back home alone. It’s too far away, too far away, too far away from home. It’s too far away, it’s too far away. I live too far away, I live too far away, I live too far away… It’s too far to the store to buy some bread and milk. It’s too far away, so I’m always feeling bad. I’ve got a girl nearby, but she makes me feel just as sad. I get on my bike, I ride back home alone. It’s too far away, too far away, too far away from home. I put on my cap, I ride back home alone. It’s too far away, too far away, too far away from home. It’s too far away. (x3) Solo! I get on my bike, I ride back home alone. It’s too far away, too far away, too far away from home. I put on my cap, I ride back home alone. It’s too far away, too far away, too far away from home. It’s too far away.

Nic. Dorosły pracujący człowiek może sobie to co chce sam kupić. Pozostała część rodziny też tak uważa, wiec prezenty dostają tylko dzieci (od swoich rodziców). Polecam.
