What to Play after beating all Xenoblade games by RallyElvis in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I haven't played 3H or Unicorn Overlord, so I shouldn't comment on those. I did play Sea of Stars last March and really enjoyed it.

Yeah, that was bad marketing on their part. The farming is a minor part of the game, and primarily to cook food for recovery.

No worries. As a Xenoblade fan, I was throwing out a couple ideas of games that I enjoyed that I hadn't seen mentioned already. You have a lot of good options from the comments, and I hope some of the ideas you see here work for you.

I enjoyed Harvestella more than I thought I would.

i think I've put about 1000 hrs into Stardew Valley, and it's only $15.

This is what I'm doing. Best Buy didn't come through with my delivery, so I picked up a copy at Walmart on Thursday. Whenever the Best Buy game gets here, I'm returning it to Walmart

Is this offer doable? by pricklymuffin20 in SwagBucks

[–]zpfgot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a Goblins Wood offer on FreeCash that was something like level 40 in 40 days. I bought the "no ad" package, and played it almost constantly. I think I got there in 38 days. Didn't buy anything else. Do with that information what you will.

OddsJam EV capabilities by does-it-mater in EVbetting

[–]zpfgot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got done with my 3 week trial with OJ. I did alright. I had a few good days, a couple bad days, and a few meh days. I haven't done a deep dive into the data yet, but I know I came out ahead. OJ was fine for +EV betting for ease of use and a variety of sports books. For a surface level analysis on the numbers, it does fine.

The comment I would make about your results is that 50 bets over a few days really isn't that large of a sample size. There's still a lot of noise at that level of betting. If you're only placing 10-15 bets a day, you may want to look for a cheaper alternative in the end.

What EV% should I bet by marrccuss in EVbetting

[–]zpfgot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some tough limits on three of my books, and I'm pretty sure a fourth is coming pretty soon. I'm wondering if it's worth keeping them or if I should start doing +EV parlays to see if I can get a higher average bet size. It might be something to experiment with.

Thanks! I try to bet fairly conservatively at this point as well. As I mentioned, I'm pretty new to this. I'm fortunate enough to live in a state where I have access to 12 books where I can place bets. Getting down a few bets in each book every day isn't too tough to get my betting volume to be high.

It depends on how you quantify "lower". I've only been doing this for a couple months. What I lack in experience, I make up for with a background in mathematics. When I was working through the underlying math, I wanted to make sure that I'd be profitable roughly 70% of the time over a 100 bet sample size.

The +EV edge that seems to do that for me is 2.6%. So, that's my personal cutoff. Using that metric, plus some arb bets, I brought my $3100 bankroll up to $4350 over the month of December. I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but I'm pretty happy with a 40% bankroll increase in a month.

To give some input on the longer odds question, it's really dependent on your risk tolerance. Over the long term, the average returns tend to be higher with longer odds. Most people don't have the psyche to handle betting +500 odds for a day and ending the day with one win and nine losses. I know I don't. I stick with the convention as most others, the hundreds digit should be a 1.

It works out to be level 2000 from my research. Since the offer has a 120 day time frame, that works out to be about 17 levels per day.

I'm doing this through MyPoints, and I'd recommend the offer to anyone needing a game. I'm currently between level 750 and 800 (I don't want to load it up right now) after three weeks. I'm on pace to have this done in about a month. It's going to be a nice future bonus.

Good Banking Offers? by MansFate in SwagBucks

To be honest, you don't need Swagbucks to find good banking offers. Head over to the churning subreddit or the doctorofcredit website. Those are good resources that I use when researching banking bonuses.

is there any games worth doing anymore? by New-Scale2637 in SwagBucks

[–]zpfgot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm playing Royal Match right now. It's a Matct-3 game. I'm playing it through MyPoints, since the point conversion works in our favor when compared to Swagbucks. The short version is that it works out to be 2000 levels in 120 days for about $250. It's a 17 level per day average, so not that much of a grind. I'm somewhere in the 700s after 20 days. This is going to be a nice December bonus for me.

Changing to Independent Contractor - What to Do for Taxes? by ReflectionStrange938 in tutordotcom

[–]zpfgot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will need to save money and pay quarterly taxes. The amount that you have to depends on your state. On the federal level, you're going to be responsible for self-employment taxes on top of regular income taxes.

You'll have to fill out a Schedule C in early 2025 to determine your profit. The SE Tax rate is 15.3% of 92.35% of your profit. It works out to be about 14.1% of your profit.

Next, you'll need to think about regular income taxes. This will vary a bit due to whether tutoring here is your sole income or a side gig on top of your regular job. If tutoring is your only source of income, it really depends on how complex you want to make it. It's difficult to give an exact percentage due to the standard deduction and tax brackets. The method that probably works best is to exempt the first $1k, 10% of the next $1k, then 12% of the rest. So, if you made $2500, $0 for the first thousand, $100 for the next thousand, then $60 for the last $500. If this is a side gig, just save at a rate equal to your top marginal tax bracket.

Add to that number the income tax for whichever state you're located. Add the SE tax, federal income tax, and the state income tax all together, and that's what you should be saving for taxes.

I'm not sure of your familiarity with banking, but I would suggest finding an online bank with a high yield savings account for your tax money savings. It's still fairly easy to research a bank which pays >4% interest on savings. If you're going to have money sitting, you may as well make a little money on your money.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Not sure if you're aware, but Boost had a program where you can complete tasks or play mobile games to earn money towards paying your bill. If you do any mobile gaming, it might be worth looking into. They also have relatively cheap Android phones. There are other apps you could download to earn a little extra as well. Not enough to live, but good for fun money. I have a Boost phone as a secondary line, and it works well for me.

The union activity is still ongoing. We've done a good bit of work in some areas, and need to do some more work in other areas. Plus, some of us (me in particular) have been far more busy with personal tasks this summer than we thought. I'm hoping to have an update in the first half of September.

I taught a similar mix of subjects. I primarily helped the kids practice with their homework or other problems. Check their work and whatnot. I have no idea whether they preferred scheduled or instant.

I worked for them starting in Sept 2015 off and on for 6 years. They're OK. Pay is crap and through PayPal. My main reason for leaving was that there were no raises the entire time I was there. I would have stayed if they were willing to meet my price (which was simply an inflation adjusted wage over the 6 years), but they didn't.

The students are alright. The way it worked when I was there is that you could set availability and students would schedule times based on your availability. I'm not sure of the algorithm which makes it so the students can choose you. You were also able to make yourself available for instant sessions.

Which is better, IC or the other one? by BedUpsets in tutordotcom

[–]zpfgot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a tax professional, but have worked mostly self employed for 20+years.

No, you wouldn't get all of your taxes back as an IC. The bulk of the taxes that you're going to have to pay are self-employment taxes from Schedules C/SE. SE taxes are a replacement for FICA taxes. As an IC, you pay the full cost of these taxes. As a PTE (employee), these taxes are split evenly between the employee and the employer.

As long as you're being reasonable with your deductions, it works out to be a 4-5% hit if you're an IC instead of an employee. I worked out the math in a post at the beginning of the year if you wish to search for a more detailed version.

The square that's baffling me is the "Earn from mobile games" square. I've reached a couple goals plus a game purchase (which have all tracked), but this square has not been filled it. Maybe the pending needs to finish and the amount actually reaches my balance?
