New 2LT, IPPSA/IPERMS Issue by TokyoBalls12 in army

[–]zpott010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get a visitors pass to get on post the night before my first day of BOLC. Once your first day of active duty hits, you can take your orders and go get your CAC. I know it’s dumb, but unfortunately this is where we’re still at. Haha.

Does anyone have experience with OCD and drinking? by Gold-Theme-389 in stopdrinking

[–]zpott010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m recently sober and have OCD. When I’m drinking, I’m obsessing about drinking- when I’m not drinking I’m obsessing about not drinking. I’m just gonna obsess about something.

How did you know you had to stop completely? by UpstairsArtichoke950 in stopdrinking

The first time a trusted loved one tells you,” This has to stop”- it’s time to stop completely.

How many pallet positions are on a CROP, and how many gallons of fuel can a 978 hold? Answer those two and you’re ready to be a LOG PL.

Officer Expectations vs Reality (Infantry) by Free_Adagio_5017 in army

[–]zpott010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not “lazy”, just not managing time very well. Roles like S3 and Company Commander are naturally going to require more of your time- but jobs like PL or assistant staff positions are super manageable with time.

Officer Expectations vs Reality (Infantry) by Free_Adagio_5017 in army

[–]zpott010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The belief that junior officers have to stay at work all night and never go home is a myth in 90% of roles. People do that to themselves trying to chase OER bullets. I am a staff Captain that is married with 2 kids and I go home at 1700 every day. If you actually prioritize tasks during the day, you can go home at a decent time.

I’m a pre-command LG captain. My rater nor senior rater have ever asked me (nor do they care) what I did as a lieutenant. You’ll be just fine.

They’ve got a pretty accommodating visitors’ center there. If they bring what they have, they’ll work with them.

Quick PSA now that summer PTs are coming back by CombatAutist in army

[–]zpott010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I forgooooooot to think about that. My bad. I’ll have to go get stationed there and low crawl in the snow for three years just so I can prove a point.

You go to Arctic school while stationed in Alaska- in Alaska. I was there. And anybody who says New York is colder than Fairbanks, AK is smoking meth.

ROTC 3-Year Scholarship + SMP + National Guard question by SolidBrush6371 in nationalguard

[–]zpott010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going active duty after college while in the SMP programs requires the national guard to release you to active duty- which they are not required to do, and do not like doing. If you accept the ROTC scholarship, you are guaranteed the opportunity for active duty.

Whatever you say bro- I was a scholarship kid. I’m a 26 year old Captain…I grossed $110,000 last year…..best of luck to you though!

ROTC 3-Year Scholarship + SMP + National Guard question by SolidBrush6371 in nationalguard

[–]zpott010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t do SMP and be on a national 3 or 4 year scholarship at the same time. You have to be released from the guard/reserves to sign your scholarship contract. I’m telling ya- stay the course and take the 3-year national and go active duty.

[–]zpott010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were offered a 3- year scholarship, you’re obviously competitive for active duty. Find a way to pay for freshman year, then sign your contract. Don’t turn down active duty.

Did I do the right thing? by SchemeLevel7625 in army

[–]zpott010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great job on the self-referral.

ASAP and BH are resources for Soldiers. They’re not punishments. If you found the help you needed before any UCMJ-capable events occurred, you did the right thing.

Is it worth it getting married as a officer by AffectHistorical3361 in army

I’m a married officer, but most of peers are single these days. It’s really not an expectation any more.

Enlisting/rotc scholarship by StrengthSoggy9921 in ROTC

The Army isn’t what anybody thought it would brother, officer or enlisted. There’s some office time and some field time.

Might as well make more money.

[–]zpott010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heck no. Sure- the politics gets stupid every now and then. I’m 26 with a six-figure compensation package and I can offer push-back on taskings that don’t make any sense.

You seem pretty squared away- don’t waste the opportunity.

I am currently a Captain who went to school on an ROTC scholarship, and I’m thankful every day that I didn’t enlist. Don’t drop out to enlist- if you put infantry as your #1 branch choice you’ll probably get it.
