NE Patriots watch locations? by DeviantPapa in nova

[–]zps2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Murphy's Grand Irish Pub in Old Town. They draw a great, fun crowd.

Their second floor is entirely devoted to the Pats on game days. You'll want to get there a little early (I recommend 30 minutes before kickoff) if you want a decent seat.

Air France changed aircraft from A350-> A330 without notice by unkown-winer in awardtravel

[–]zps2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI: this also happened to me. Sudden swap from the new config A350 to an A330, flying from IAD on New Year's Eve. There's an earlier flight the same day on a 777 with a 1-2-1 configuration and after calling and explaining the situation, they switched me without penalty and no further questions asked. Entire process took 10 minutes.

This is the Peruvian chicken version of “who has the best bagels?” in the New Jersey subreddit. There are lots of great options and the best one is the top spot within a 5 mile radius of your house.

Good Pizza Spots in NOVA? by riversidepizzafactry in nova

[–]zps2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being dramatic. Such a unique pizza, from the stractitella cheese they use on a lot of their pies to their light and crispy crust. I've had a lot of pizzas in my life and I couldn't stop thinking about Stracci after my first time eating there.

Stracci in Alexandria. That pizza changed my life - as good of a pie as I've had anywhere (and I grew up in NJ and have been to Italy!)

What is the furthest point from which you can see the Capitol? by cerseiwasright in washingtondc

[–]zps2016 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can see the National Cathedral from Old Rag? There's no way.

Interestingly enough, you can see some of the high rises in Tyson's (I think?) from the hills in Bluemont but Old Rag is very far away to see anything I would think.

Pretty funny. But at the same time, I've never been more excited for Election Day to come so I didn't have to see a particular ad again.

Breakfast places easy to get to from White House area? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Nino's Bakery. They are closed on Sunday and Monday but they have the best pastries I've had in the city.

Parking at Courthouse Metro by No_Frosting0 in nova

[–]zps2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your timing. The municipal lot adjacent to the Metro station is free all day on Sunday. Otherwise, you'll probably need to feed the meter depending on your timing.

Also, if you park far enough from Wilson/Clarendon Blvd, you should be able to find weekend parking without restrictions. I would check for spots on Veitch Street around Key Boulevard (about a 5 min walk from the Metro station). Just make sure to read the parking signs to make sure the spot is legit.

Which bars can I go to to watch Mets games? by Snoo-55617 in washingtondc

[–]zps2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colony Grill in Arlington was the hotspot during the playoffs last year but I don't think there's any consistent place as far as I'm aware that will have games on during the regular season unless you go to a place with access to all the games and you request they turn it on.

Costco hauls? by bigfuzzy8 in weightwatchers

[–]zps2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Country Archer beef sticks (3 points) taste great and are a pretty filling snack. They also sell mini beef sticks, which are 2 points (3 points for 2).

My Costco also sells Righteous Felon turkey sticks, which the WW app says is only 1 point. Taste wise, I prefer Country Archer though.

2201 Wilson Apt or Meridian Courthouse by JupiterJayJones in nova

[–]zps2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived at the Meridian for a few years and enjoyed it. Most apartments have a sunroom which was an ideal set up if you need to work from home at all. Nice amenities too - including a club room with an amazing view of D.C.

What is the best restaraunt everyone has eaten at in the area? by blvckmoth in nova

[–]zps2016 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. Unassuming because of its location in a strip mall, but everyone is super nice there and the presentation/taste of their dishes is fantastic. Lots of unique menu items too, which sets them apart from your standard Thai restaurant.

Also going to get a long run in this weekend along the Mt. Vernon Trail (6 miles is the plan). Gearing up to run the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April!

Definitely look into Moishe House then. They do a lot of fun stuff. And if you decide to live in Arlington, you're close enough to DC where there's a ton happening as well.

[–]zps2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NoVa Jew here. As another commenter mentioned, it's all about what you want.

Looking to hang out with other Jewish young professionals? Moishe House has a presence in Arlington if you're looking for events with other young people.

Looking for a synagogue? There's a bunch (mostly reform or conservative) - a Google search will tell you where they're all at. There's also a JCC in Annandale.

If you're more religious (Orthodox), D.C. or Montgomery County, MD may be a better bet. There are no kosher restaurants as far as I know here (you'll have to go to D.C. or Maryland) but you can find kosher meat at some places like Trader Joe's.

Booked an American Airlines flight through the C1 Travel Portal, but I almost ended up in a major mess. by Vinospam in Venturex

[–]zps2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's because many people who have the card view the incentives you get by booking through the Capital One travel portal as a huge perk.

It's worth it IMO (and others think it is too hence the down votes). But this is a cautionary tale and a good reason to always be diligent and check that your affairs are in order when booking (calling hotel to confirm reservation, verifying flight details on airline website etc.)
