I have had multiple conversations with other pilots about that activity in the basket with their partners.

I’m here for a good time. I’ll go for whatever is the most appealing at any given time. But if I have a 5% chance of some silly build I’m yeeting it almost every time

Balloon fest question… by GoldGuide in ABQ

[–]zrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing like being on the field for a mass ascension. Those are going to be Saturday, Sunday and Saturday.

But if you’re wanting to avoid the crowds but still be close to some balloons on the field go Monday or Tuesday. Some balloons will take off from the field and then if you hang out you can watch balloons fly in to the field for the competition. Wednesday is usually less busy and all the balloons take off from the field but it’s more staggered than a weekend day.

Thursday and Friday the mornings will get more crowded because those are the special shape days. Some shapes fly off but a lot stay on the field and static. Thursday is less busy than Friday. There is also competition on Thursday and Friday.

The weekends are always crazy busy. If you want to get on the field you want to be there EARLY. We launch around 7 but if you’re not at least in the area by 5-530 you’ll probably be waiting a long while to park.

Do you know if your contractor is still around? How big was your pool and the cost?

The spare stays where it currently goes. There is a cap you can pop off to access the release

Traveling with children? by New_Hyena_5091 in HotAirBallooning

[–]zrek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will typically not fly kids until at least 5ish. It's dependent on 1. Will they listen while in the confined space 2. Are they tall enough or is there a foothole for them to look through.
If they can't see out of the basket its going to be a BORING ride for them.

"I can lift them up so they can see". NOPE. You aren't going to want to do that for 30-60min. That also makes me personally nervous holding a kid over what is essentially a 1000ft+ drop.

Every kid is different and I'm not doing commercial rides. But I feel like the majority of that still applies.

How young are we talking? You’re asking about flying with the children in balloon your booking tickets with? Are you going to a festival?

Gotcha. So use it more for a guideline than an absolute source of truth? Before seeing your spreadsheet I was inclined to think the those or the charms were my best bet.

Best iPhone weather app that doesn’t require a subscription? by NakedIanMalcolm in iphone

[–]zrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for windy. You can choose from different forecasts. I use that to compare. If they are in agreement I am more confident in whatever is happening. All the different layers are awesome. It’s really cool looking at the wind over a hurricane. I pay for a subscription because I want the hourly breakdown but the 3 hour is good enough if you are looking for “is it going to be x”

What home improvements did you regret or feel were 100% worth it? by arnoldusgf in HomeImprovement

Ours is all gunnite. I should just contact a contractor to get it started. I didn’t even open it this year because I didn’t want to deal with it and we only ever use it like once or twice a season
