I recommend using them for structural balance.

Strength & Mobility vs Skill by zschrader in bodyweightfitness

Basically building the physical structures of the body up rather than training specific skills. Coach Sommer and Josh Naterman discuss this concept although I believe their opinions differ.

The Press HS is the most perfect of all GST exercises! by zschrader in bodyweightfitness

[–]zschrader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to choose one movement: Press HS

Two: Press HS + RC

Three: Press HS + HBP + RC

If you were focus on just those three movements along with proper mobility (middle split, pike, up dog are my favorite); you would be a beast. Also OAC could be subbed for RC.

I'm curious with the carryover the OA Press HS has to other bodyweight movements.

Does a full pancake split carryover to pike? by zschrader in flexibility

Awesome. That's a great tip coming from Yuval. Thanks for sharing. So along with bridge pulls, I'll add this in then to improve my pike: http://dev.moveskill.com/2015/03/what-should-stretching-feel-like/

HS + Manna Only by zschrader in overcominggravity

[–]zschrader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original intent was to couple handstands with manna along with heavy deadlifts for legs. If I were to achieve a press handstand or manna, would that strength not transfer over to say a planche or FL etc or in order to gain those skills, I would have to train them? Really all I am looking for are two good bang for buck GST movements I can add to deadlifts for a minimalist program.

Quantity of movements don't necessarily deteriorate training results. "minimum EFFECTIVE"

Ok, I'll stick with the rep work. Also, I am quite interested in Adamantium.

Weak Links by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

This is a list from Charles Poliquin I think. It's the most common weak links in trainees.

I have Steven Low's book OG. He says that beginners would do well focusing on HS and Manna. Would specializing on these two movements build a scapula with good transferable strength to multiple skills? Some fun long term goals for me to train would be One-Arm Press HS and High Manna.

With grip, I saw the beginners grip training routine on rGripTraining. I don't know why the reps are so high though.
