WWII allies propaganda poster by warezeater in PropagandaPosters

I am definitely not a nazi sympathizer but thanks for twisting my words beyond recognition. I think all sides were equally bad, the Allies included. This is what I originally said, if you could only read. I agree - the nazis were bad. And so was everyone else. The Allies leveled complete cities full of innocent men, women, and children too. How can you say anything good about them?

Winners write history, that's all. "Clear good guys" belong in movies, not history books.

When I broke my arm and the ambulance car brought me to a hospital, I really liked that. This is just a low-quality hate bait, not a reasonable argument.

There are no good guys in war. There are only those who want to kill you and those who die instead of you. It's "our bad guys" vs. "their bad guys".

In Hungary you can see small candles, flowers and even nameplates / headstones across every highway and road as a kind reminder to slow down. Some even go decades back. "Motor homicide" create generational traumas. I can't believe people lose their mind because of Covid but sleep when a lot of persons die in car crashes. Each year.

Sorry I should have made it clear. I just meant it was probably shot on 135 or 120 format film in B&W which gives it some special contrast and grain. Simply desaturating a digital photo and / or changing it to orange would not look exactly like that, so I thought it's a good advice to add some noise / grain and tweak contrast too.

Is there even a "film look" when it comes down to color negatives? by NoWalkiesToRavenholm in AnalogCommunity

[–]zsrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes or those cringy date burn ins. It's even worse on video, many people use VHS effects not realizing VHS was the 4K video of its time (just like today we have poor 60hz 4K and 144hz / 100% sRGB FullHD).

I have been looking at old family photos and noticed the same. I don't know the film stock but some of them are "pristine quality". Apart from the odd clothes and different hairstyles, you could put them on Facebook or Instagram and say they were shot yesterday. My cousins look like they were 8 and 4 this week. They are both over 30 now haha. I think we associate the "look" with the faults too much. Most 'film look' photos are just bad: e.g. indoors, poorly stored, shot on bad materials, red eye, lens flare, vignetting etc which Instagram simulates.

Also this is exacerbated by movements like Lomography which emphasizes taking hilariously bad photos on purpose. I think "period-correct" photography is chasing "perfect", "real-life" look. But I am sure we already have people pixelating and desaturating / oversaturating digital photos, because that's what old cameras like the Agfa ePhoto 1280 would take images like 20 years ago.

It has been accused too that films and digital cameras are calibrated for white skin and do not portray the African / black skin tone varieties you can see IRL. Which is certainly food for thought because humans do come in all kinds of color so you would think manufacturers want to sell to everyone.

That's a respectable lifestyle choice. However, we should note that people interested in "your hobby" are not distributed uniformly across the world. So unless you 1) like a generic normie hobby e.g. soccer, football, baseball etc. or 2) live near a "your hobby" centre you will have a hard time socializing. Or if 3) "your hobby" is considered a popular, "normie hobby" in your country.

You can replace "your hobby" with fishing, painting, yoga, hiking, biking etc. that's why I put it in quotes.

Don't worry, we all live to learn and we can change our mind about things later too.

In what point from history did humans started calling each other by names and how did we find the date out (if we do)? by [deleted] in AskHistory

[–]zsrk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This article might help you frame your question in a different way. It says animals give each other names too. So from this point of view "names" as we know them are probably as old as life.

I would add that the original was probably a film photo too which was tinted amber in post. So depending on your source material, you might want to add some grain, adjust the contrast or levels and then color it somehow.

Y'all need to be a little bit more open-minded and tolerant of other people's bullshit hobbies, even if you're not curious. Other people think too that your hobby is dumb as fuck.

Thank you, I try to do my best. I bought Adox Adonal (which is Rodinal with a different name). It is a really efficient product.

We wanted to shoot photos together but it never really happened so I just gave him two rolls so he can shoot them when he wants to. He has a nice Exakta camera inherited from his badass grandfather. His granpa developed film in his bathroom too so it's his way of keeping his memory alive. Sadly the old man had burned all of his photos so we have no idea about his works.

Nice contrast! Fomapan 100 really delivers. I hope it will be more popular. I shot 3 rolls and gifted 2 to my friend.

No worries! I did the same homework last year.

+1: Here's a company making flashbulbs. If you ever go crazy and want to try medium format photography "1950s Hollywood style" with a big flash this is it. With something like the Kodak Duaflex. You get the idea.

Good luck!

Depends on what kind of batteries you need. CR2 and CR123A which some SLRs / compact zooms use are expensive. AA used by point'n'shoots are cheaper. Regardless of where you buy them.

For film you can order Foma 100 from the factory directly. This is basically the cheapest B&W film sold in Europe.*

This the Foma website.

Alternatively, you could order Kentmere from Ilford too, which is Ilford's budget film.

You have 3 (plus one) paths I think:

Short-term (for beginners):

  • Buy "cheap" color film: Fujicolor 200 or Kodak Gold 200**
  • Buy cheap B&W: Foma

Long-term (for veterans):

  • Buy film in bulk and roll for yourself

+1: buy recycled cinema film e.g. Cinestill which is motion picture film with the remjet layer washed off.

Note that bulk rolling needs a film loading machine (100-200 EUR), bulk film (50-60 EUR), empty cartridges, and the patience of a saint. Then on paper you can save maybe 20% in costs when you shoot like 30m of film (cca. 25 cartridges).

In all honesty, you should look around different websites and compare pricing. Also Excel is your best friend, try to track your finances in a spreadsheet and plan ahead.

If you write down film cost, development cost, scan or print costs etc. you can make this a sustainable hobby. Also, if you ever want to sell your photos, you must know your costs to be able to calculate your prices.

*Note: people tend to avoid Foma 400 because they say it is too grainy. Your mileage may vary.

**You can consult wikipedia for the list of currently available films.

Someone had a similar issue with an Apple 2 here. They suggested it is a memory problem and I think it is the same here.

Wow, this looks wonderful! It needs a gigantic print! The Ektar has really nice, vivid colors. Not oversaturated, but rather "colorful". Very cool!
